When I work on my B&G, I set the magneto gap as close as I can. You may be a little far with the index card gap. Also, make sure all the surfaces are rust, dirt, and goo free. If they are dirty, a very fine grade of wet/dry or coarse steel wool will clean it up. I don't recommend putting any oil (as a rust preventative) on the surfaces since oil can act as an insulator.

check mag output wire for voltage while motor is cranked.
i don't know your specicific gap specsa, but i used to set the gap with two thicknesses of notebook paper (.006"-.007"). as volga said, polish up the mag faces and flywheel magnet area...eliminate all rust. ah...i just read the "magnatron"....check your ignitor box....may be mounted on the block side. |
