Great step by step on how to take apart.
linx310.nothingbutguns.com/fieldstrip.htmThis is for Romanian rifles, but the MAKS are exactly the same.

You might want to read over other parts of the page. There is a WEALTH of info there.

To add parts to make compliant:

Step 1) Buy a U.S. made stock set. If Polymer, minor filing will be needed. A monkey could do this.

Step 2) Buy an RSA trigger group and retainer plate. Throw away directions like any man.

2a)Install.

There, you are done. See how easy it is!

Having trouble getting the rivets out to remove the trigger group. Also it looks like the gas piston is screwed on to the carrier and blind pinned. Field stripping is not the problem. Any recomendations on source?

Have you removed the shepherds hook yet? It holds the pin in place.

The gas piston is welded on. There is no reason to take it off really. If you buy other replacement parts (the parts I listed are one more than you need, and come in sets) that are easier to replace, there is noo need to mess with it.
