The wife said this has to be finished by the 4th of July....Then bulletfest is right before that. Do you think I have enough time..............I'm feeling a little pressure.

Looks like you need a good contractor.
Link Posted: 6/12/2003 7:19:03 AM EDT
I have faith in you.

If you cant use the check book.
Link Posted: 6/12/2003 7:29:06 AM EDT
I am the contractor...framer...roofer...and everything else it needs....the rain just won't let up...If I can just get it in the dry before the windows show up, she may let the outside finish go until after the 4th....hopefully.

you're in deep shit.....

Get busy because you need to give me a thorough briefing on Bulletfest......

Get the floodlamps out for night shift!!!

Good luck,

KF

Buddy you better get a rain coat and get busy.
Link Posted: 6/12/2003 8:38:08 AM EDT
Thanks KF, I was looking for moral support. I'm planning on BF come hell or high water. I've been wet before and this is not going to stop me, but may slow the roofing. Tim Allen would be proud. I've got all the pneumatic and electrical tools that a carpenter could use, and then some. But my "brother", decided to go to Florida for a few days, and he isn't around to help.....

Hahahah. You're screwed!
Link Posted: 6/12/2003 9:20:11 AM EDT
it's hard to tell with modern homes.
it may be finished. just pull the supports off and you will be done. if you are going to build a sun room then you need to brick it to match the house.

I hate to tell you this, but they ain't no way you're going to finish that addition by July 4th, so you might as well make youself a doghouse and move in.

Problem solved: buy a keg and recruit some friends...

Beer? Did someone say free beer? I got the nail gun and compressor loaded in the truck.
Link Posted: 6/12/2003 4:53:49 PM EDT
Does the phrase, between a rock and a hard place ring any bells?
Link Posted: 6/12/2003 5:01:11 PM EDT
You better grab a hammer in a hurry.
Link Posted: 6/12/2003 6:53:19 PM EDT
Looks like you are going to need to take the little lady to Bulletfest.

This way she won't be at home staring at the incomplete project, and getting pissed off at you because she knows you are having fun.

It sucks to be you right now!

The 4th of July, 2004 looks very doable to me!
Link Posted: 6/12/2003 7:14:23 PM EDT
My God! You have too nice a house. Sell it and give the money to the poor.
Link Posted: 6/12/2003 7:22:04 PM EDT
Wife???

Whats that?
Link Posted: 6/12/2003 7:30:37 PM EDT
Good luck!You'll need it.

Free beer, I knew I forgot something. I think I can get this in the dry before b-fest. Oh ye of little faith.

I think the siding is going to be beaded lap board like the garage/boat house. The gable ends of the house as well as the porch are lap board already.

It started out as a wood deck elevated 24" off the ground. Wife wanted the deck pulled and a slab/screen porch installed. I figured a 3-season room with sliding windows would work BETTER. Cost only increased another grand for the windows and it will suit us better I believe. Screen porches require more upkeep, and then its still a porch.

Tell the wife " it will be done when I damn well finish it", then run like hell.

A garage and a boat house? Open that bloated wallet up and hire a couple of guys! Or go the free beer route.

My garage/boathouse is just the garage I built in the back to work out of and for some reason the bass boat decided to take over. So its a garage that houses my bass tracker. No way can I afford to hire this out. Besides, I would not be happy with the workmanship that I've seen by contractors around here. The biggest problem is making sure that the "earthquake codes" are complied with.

Shit, it looks done to me!

Love the brick on the house and the pool, but that wood sculpture on the back is awesome. (thinks she'll go for it?)

I think she may cut me some slack if I make an effort. Working between the rain fronts, it has gone from this....

to this in two weeks. I've put up this frame in the last three days between the scattered thunderstorms.

Now for attaching the rafters, I've got to plan on 2 days without rain to get the roof in and water tight. Otherwise, she is going to be pissed about her kitchen ceiling.

OK. Just like my garage.
SO, where is all the free beer?

I guess I'll drag out the keg-erator after I go get the roof decking and shingles. I figure that if I can get six guys on the roofing crew, things will go quicker. Two on the roof, two carrying supplies, and two at the keg/pool swapping out in rotation. hehehe

Two days of forecasted rain free days come Friday and Saturday. I just may get this in the dry before next weekend yet.
Link Posted: 6/19/2003 6:44:18 AM EDT
What are you working at half speed? You should be able to get that decked and shingled in a day.

Your other problem is you live to close to other people. How do you shoot the squerrals from your kitchen with the guy next door so close? I couldn't handle that.

By the way, your going to get to meet Mrs. Brick at Bulletfest. I got her to come with this year. Says she wants to see what drives Nate and I so wild in June!

Brick

It's lookin real good, and I am very impressed with your progress. Hopefully this will please the little lady enough, so you can enjoy Bulletfest.

I need a rest.........and a few beers.....and also, where is Ms. RSA at......

Link Posted: 6/23/2003 7:49:29 AM EDT
Well, I'll be.... Looks like you're going to at least get it closed in and dry by the deadline. My hat's off to you!

It just goes to show you that the motivation to attend another Bulletfest will drive men to do the impossible. The offer of free brews didn't hurt either. I am bushed and ready for a few days off.
