I thought it was serious. Like a warning to other people who might be treating your wounds. So they would know to be extra careful.

Is there any kind of web gear that's a bit more subtle? I'd like something that would hold 6-8 mags that doesn't scream mall ninja at 100 yards.

Trying your hardest not to look like a mall ninja, in my opinion, is just as bad as trying to look really cool.

Just get what works.  Never mind how you look.

Something like a shoulder bag? What is your plan for the rifle while you aren't looking like a ninja?

I just use a $20 black LA Police Gear bailout bag when training with my AKs. Like this:

Plenty of room for loaded and empty mags with extra space for other shit, used like a Suarez-style sneaky bag. I've used the EXACT same bag over here as well, in coyote tan, since 2009. At $20, you're not going to find anything nicer than one of these.

I have both an Interceptor w/ plates and an AR500 carrier set up with MOLLE galore, but I ain't gonna wear either unless I am planning on hitting the two-way range.

Tactical Tailor MAV with Strikehard Gear 2 and 3 mag shingles. First time trying the mag shingles and I really like them, keep the mags close to the body and very quick to retrieve mags. Really impressed with the Strikehard Gear, picked up the shingles and some mag pouches from them, very well made.

Surplus 5 mag bag, the hungarian ones are around now. Remove a few dividers and you can get 6 mags in them. its just a bag with a flap and shoulder strap and a belt loop on the back.

Hey guys, I just bought four x4 mag AK pouch with belt loop and shoulder strap from budsgunshop for ten bucks (for all four)

Finally got it to where I like it, Tactical Tailor MAV, Strikehard Gear AK mag shingles, TT pistol mag pouch, TT utility pouch and TT shoulder pads, I also ditched the cross harness and used the connector off of an old Israeli chest rig to turn it into an H harness.

I also set up a bandolier for quick grab and go, it's a 7.62 tactical MOLLE bandolier panel with Strikehard Gear double AK mag pouches.

Do US surplus SAW pouches work fairly well?  I have the ALICE and MOLLE versions (although they're packed away now because I'm moving), and it would be nice if I didn't need to buy more web gear.....

The 200 round SAW pouch will hold 6 steel magazines side by side. However there is no real speed to it or structure once you draw 2 or 3 magazines they will start laying down in the pouch. The SAW pouch is good for keeping 6 magazines together in an easy to grab package though.

A regular 1qt canteen pouch, with the guts pulled out, will hold five PMags nicely.

ETA: Forgot I was in the AK section. Make that four AK mags.

Do you guys prefer chest rigs or a battle belt?  I want to carry 2 AK74 mags and 2-3 pistol mags.

Which feels better for your back, esp. if you have low back problems?

I like having both. However for carrying 2 rifle and 2 pistol mags i'd suggest getting a good MOLLE belt with good mag pouches.

Currently testing/using An SADF M83 chest rig and an OSOE AK/M4 Micro-rig. Also looking for a single or double rifle magazine to use on my ALICE belt.

I use an SOE M4/AK Micro Rig. It holds four AK mags, one pistol mag in an Eagle pouch I added, IFAK in the large pouch, and an additional easy access tourniquet in a Marz Tactical pouch. It keeps everything I need out from under my arms and holds a decent amount of gear with no ability to overload it.

I also have a kydex single mag pouch from Dale Fricke. It holds a 20 quite nicely and conceals well. That stays in the covert case along with a five mag bandoleer.

It is standard loader of our troops, tested on the front lines.

That is previous version of their loaders.
If you are interested, you can find info about new ones on podavach.com.

Exactly how I have my SOE micro rig set up: 4 mags, extra pistol mag pouch, VOK in big pocket, and extra TQ.   Works perfectly for me.

Thanks. That's a MOLLE, Polish made Miwo Military (MM) kit. The belt, suspenders and most of the pouches are MM. A couple of the pouches are Dutch or German issue.

Set up is as follows from left to right looking at the photo:

- Double pistol mag/small items pouch.
- Triple AK mag pouch with a frag pouch attached to the left side of it.
- Utility pouch. Will fit 3 AK mags/ Nalgene bottle or similar items.
- Canteen/ utility pouch.
- Butt pack
- Canteen/utility pouch.
- Low profile pistol holster.
- Triple AK mag pouch w/ smoke and frag pouch attached to the left and right of it.
- Double pistol mag/ small items pouch.

On each side of the yoke of the harness there is one smoke/radio/utility pouch.

Hydration carrier can be attached to the back or small or medium backpack will fit very nicely above the butt pack.

I did some tinkering around with my surplus gear tonight, and the MOLLE canteen/multi-purpose pouch holds 4x 30-round AK PMAGs pretty well.  The retention strap is adjustable to get the flap to cover the mags.  The side drawstrings can cinch down on 3 mags or 2 mags pretty well.

I'm considering ordering some 20-round AK mags because they seem like they'd fit in a lot more US pouches.
