I have a receiver cover mount that is movable and cheezy and am considering where to go with my optios.

Side mounted (mid $50) versus the Ultimak ($100 plus) tube based system.

Any experience with either?

I have not found anything more secure for AKs than the side rail system.

I have a Kobra red dot on the side rail of one of my AKs and a Holosight on an Ultimak on another AK.

Ultimak/Holosight is the winner hands down.

It is a much more expensive set up, and it does get hot.  Figure $125 or so for the Kobra vs $350 or so for the Holo/Ultimak.

The Holosight does not cowitness, but I read another thread where a guy with an Aimpoint said he had a great cowitness.

If you run a search on "Ultimak" you will find that most people who have them report that they like them.
