A friend of mine recently purchased a Romanian
AK-47 (I think he said it was an SAR 1, but I'm not sure what that means.)
I told him I would order a couple of magazines for it the next time I put in an order with CDNN. They advertise "soviet bloc", Norinco, and Bulgarian mags. They are all pretty close in price, anyone have any suggestions on which one to buy?
Thanks

Thanks for the info, I agree that buying used magazines is not a smart way to save a dollar.
I haven't been a real fan of the ergonomics of the AK in the past, but I am now considering the purchase of one rather than a pistol caliber carbine. They're cheaper, tough, reliable, have higher mag capacity, and hit harder than the the Thompson or the PC-9 I wanted.

Aim Surplus and Tapco have some really good deals on mags right now.

Thanks for the help.
I ordered 2 of the Bulgarian steel mags for him,
(I was in a hurry to get my order in). I will try to get some of the waffle mags next time.

Tell him to get some of the 20 round Hungarian "Tanker" mags also. Very cool, I bought 4 unissued ones still in the wrapper. Nice for shooting from a rest and they don't look dorky like 10 rounders!

Don't see any 20 rounders there, but they do have AK-74 mgas for about $7 each.

Just FYI, there are some issues with the waffle polymer mags fitting a SAR 1. Not sure if it is all of them or not, but I know a buddy's would not. There is a rod that I guess strengthens the receiver that the waffles kept hitting and would not allow them to seat and lock up. Someone else on this board had the same problem too.
