Saw these pics of North Korean helical mags.  Is this something that only NK uses or does someone sell these?  Would be fun to check one of these out.

Notice these are Top Folders

One extra pic of a mag pouch (looks like it has blueprint tube holders) in this article:

Wonder if they are reliable at all? Mag change is probably a PITA. Likely just a propaganda piece.

Dont know about reliability but its a standard issue NK weapon, not just a prop, its a top folding ak-74 derivative with the helical mag.

The shape doesn’t seem to lend itself to the rock n lock of an ak magwell. How can you lock the front lug in and rock it into the latch at the rear? Looks like it’s supported by a lug on the barrel too, not sure a quick change is even possible. Use it, toss it?

My guess is the mag itself has a it's own paddle or button to lock/unlock the mag

I think these mags are only issued to Kims special protection force

Not for combat but for killing hordes of Norks.

The article I posted above says only Kim's guard has them now, and they appear to attach to the bayonet lug somehow for extra support.

They have no front catch, the front hooks on an extra long gas block pin and then rocks and latches using a standard rear.. The front of the magazine is clearanced to allow it to rock in.

reasonably clever.

Four days and no one has said the word "Bizon?" 9mm Makarov, 64 rd drum, we were jonesing for them hard when we first found out about them-- the AK guys know all about them-- so far I haven't seen any attempts to clone one using a Calico 9mm drum, but I know it's been tried--

Probably just propaganda.  Kinda like all that NV.

ETA.  Nevermind I see the mags the real deal but still don’t believe the NV.

I am amazed at the close up photo above.  If accurate:

- capacity appears to be at least 64 rounds

I would imagine there are probably a dozen of these outside N.Korea:

-6 in South Korea from defectors

-6 in China from same sources.

I doubt either country is sharing much info on them with anyone.

The Bizon is from Russia. Not Best Korea.
