What was a good deal on good steel surplus mags?  My gut tells me that the current "deals" on $20 mags isn't that great of a deal.  I'm New to the AK scene, and I'm looking for an idea of what I can expect prices to drop down to, so I can keep an eye out for a good deal (e.g. I got 10 30rnd d&h AR mags and an ammo can from PSA for $107 shipped on 5/23)

Back about 1.5-2 years ago when AIM had the Chinese flatbacks for $8.95 when you bought 10 or more. Regular price if ordering less than ten was like $10 each.
Those days are gone.

$10-15 was pretty normal.
$5-10 for bulk, beat up or a really good deal.

Oddball mags, desirable polymers and Hung. tankers always commanded a bit more.

I first loaded up in the mid-90's when DDR surplus flooded the market.
I think the deal was four mags in a "rain" pouch for $14.99.
Didn't even have an AK, got them for my SKS "M".

For the last year, I was buying mint Chinese mags at the local gunshow for $9-$10 each, one a month. No tax, no shipping. Oh, & the seller threw in a free chocolate bar. The seller finally ran out. GARY

That was just last summer, I bought a few at 9.95, asked them at the time how many they had, the answer was "a metric ton". I should have bought a half-ton at least.

I still have 20 of them in unopened boxes that AIM shipped back then, and an unopened box of 12 of the Egyptian AK mags.
Yup never even opened the box to look at them yet

Yes it is. Russian marked mags have always been a premium. It is a great deal. Buy those. $20 is more than a standard surplus mag is worth, but you'll have something more desirable than a standard mag.
