I bought some of this stuff in the nineties and found it in the garage cleaning out ammo cans.  This was back when the Chinese ammo disappeared overnight after the Clinton ban.  Is this the stuff??

I think all 8m3 ammo is made by Uly.

What you have is Tula ball ammo, which I'd very happily shoot the heck out of.

I found a good home for 76 of these.

I used a tack to check the inside of the hollow point and could feel large ridges. I can't wait for some milk jug explosion tests.

Also looking forward to the video.  If we could get this lacquer coated in spam cans and wood crates, perfect ammo.  If the makers of Golden Tiger could buy 8M3 bullets and make a special batch.  Probably impossible, but I can dream.

I truly wish we could get that case and packaging from SGammo. Sam said that cartridge plant doesn't make lacquer cases any more. I am still eyeing those wood crates.

Anyone have any guesses what velocity would be from a 10.5/11.5"?

And what the fragmentation threshold is for the 8m3 projectile?

I wrote an article. Let me know if I got anything wrong.

If this is actual 8M3, it hasn't been imported since the early 2000's. An extremely effective round for human size targets. They fragment and penetrate to the 12 inch mark.
I'm not doubting SG, but com block ammo has and does bite folks. I really hope it is what they say, it would mean we actually get some X39 that does something besides punch a pencil hole. M67 is the best we have right now, and it is getting expensive, and is corrosive. Some folks are scared of corrosive, so the new offering would be nice.

Really because the video you cited makes the specific point that it DOES NOT penetrate to 12", although like you he does seem to think it's an effective round.

Any actual data on terminal performance on humans to substantiate your claims in red?

I promised to send some to Buffman for short barrel testing and then promptly forgot. I'll try to get some out to him this week.

Ordered 200 rds for deer/hogs. Anybody have a cross section cutaway of one of the projectiles?

I want to stress that some other Russian hollow point has cuts in the nose that look similar but don't fragment.

I fired 100 rounds of the Tula 8M3 out of my Chinese SKS today and was having weird accuracy issues at both 50 and 100 yds.  Groups seemed unusually large.  I had one round fail to fire and when I ejected it I saw this...

The tip looks like it has a bit sliced right off.

Can someone compare the length of these to other 7.62x39 rounds and see how the overall length is?

Mine was large too. So far I'm thinking it's good for hog or deer out to 50 yards. Almost wonder if I shouldn't pull the projectiles and load them on golden tiger cases.
