Supposedly one of the Baltics are surplussing some out. They have finally got their 5,45 and 54R guns out of inventory and built up enough NATO stocks to fight a war with Russia.
They recently gave a bunch like 9000 tons to Ukraine as well. I think the stuff we are getting was so old it didn't pass the very loose war time standard in Ukraine for ignition and was deemed unsuitable even for them. I want to see some tests before I dive in. A lot of that stuff was stored in salt mines/bunkers and that fairs pretty good over time ever 60 years; however, a lot of stuff was stored in rail cars and subject to wide temp fluctuations. That's the stuff that has hangfires or bad ignition.
When you think about the staggering numbers of 5.45 and 54R rounds being expended in Iraq, Syria, Ukraine, Yemen, Sudan, Ect Ect. You can kind of see where the supply side is drying up on this. Fewer factories are also producing this ammo and much of that is AP or incendiary. 10's of Billions of rounds have been expended in the last 2 years of various wars. I know for a fact the Ukraine has shot fricking 10,000's of thousands of tons of the stuff since 2014. Its crazy to think about it. Undergound bunker systems the size of a small city have been emptied.
