What happened to it all? Just a few years ago I could find crates of it all over the place now can't seam to find any and what little I can find is priced about the same as new tula.  Given that price is about the same I go for the non crossive.

Do you guys think that we will be seeing any new sources of cheep surplus any time soon.

The Ukrainian's have found a new need for all that old ammo.  I'm afraid the best we can hope for is to continue to see new Russian-made '54.  Good luck.

What is wrong with the Ukraine, don't they know we have thousands of starving mosin,  vepr and  psl rifles in this country.

Glad I bought a ton of the Polish when it was around and cheap.

I have 10 tins. Should be enough to last me for the rest of my life!

That depends on what you are shooting it trough.
I have 91/59 , 91/30, 91/ 30 sniper,  m44 and a vepr in 7.62x54r

People have been saying it was going to dry up for years and well it did. I have a couple crates and a few loose tins. I really like the Bulgarian stuff :)

Thankfully I only have my Mosin in that chambering. It'll take a lifetime to shoot through the few tins I have with a bolt-gun. If I had a semi-auto like a Vepr I'd be in deep shit, because I could go through a tin in a weekend.

I'm not putting too much faith in the idea, but I am hoping that the new administration fosters a climate in which we can more readily obtain 7.62x54R again. It would certainly go a long way towards making America great again.

I still have a lot of this as I have slowed in my shooting of it. Surprisingly I find the crappy Albanian the best in my PSL over the Cheq, Bulgarian, and Hungarian stuff.

Right now I am saving my 147 gr silver tip for my mosins
I am trying to gather up as much as I can afford and find tula 147 gr ball rounds for my veper. If the surplus ammo comes back and affordable I will stock up on it.

I have heard some talk on decent quantities of surplus 54R coming in but it is all older 1940s-50s vintage on stripper clips and the price is not that great, but not bad either, it may be 2-3 months out

I bought a couple of cans of this stuff from you a few years back, all of it went bang. This is some of the best news yet.

Supposedly one of the Baltics  are surplussing some out. They have finally got their 5,45 and 54R guns out of inventory and built up enough NATO stocks to fight a war with Russia.
They recently gave a bunch like 9000 tons to Ukraine as well. I think the stuff we are getting was so old it didn't pass the very loose war time standard in Ukraine for ignition and was deemed unsuitable even for them. I want to see some tests before I dive in. A lot of that stuff was stored in salt mines/bunkers and that fairs pretty good over time ever 60 years; however, a lot of stuff was stored in rail cars and subject to wide temp fluctuations. That's the stuff that has hangfires or bad ignition.

When you think about the staggering numbers of 5.45 and 54R rounds being expended in Iraq, Syria, Ukraine, Yemen, Sudan, Ect Ect. You can kind of see where the supply side is drying up on this. Fewer factories are also producing this ammo and much of that is AP or incendiary. 10's of Billions of rounds have been expended in the last 2 years of various wars. I know for a fact the Ukraine has shot fricking 10,000's of thousands of tons of the stuff since 2014.  Its crazy to think about it.  Undergound bunker systems the size of a small city have been emptied.

even if the stuff we get in is no good, I would still buy it if it was cheep enough like a few cents a round. i would pull it and reload them, as long as the primers are good. if not I would use the bullets but would have to be very cheep for that.

I bought some Polish on strippers a few years ago. It went bang. It was nice to have Mosin ammo actually packaged in a configuration for Mosins. The new Mosin strippers suck ass. I gave up on repro strippers.

I have found the primers to be the weak link it the reliability of a cartridge.
Pull down the ammo and put the original powder and bullet in freshly primed cases and you are back in business!

I bought an 880 round crate every week from the day trouble in Ukraine hit the news until it wasn't available anymore.

My Mosins and UK-59 don't go hungry

I only have two Mosins, so the two 880 crates will last me quite a while.

I got 5 spam cans of steel core & about 1/2 a can of heavy core yellow tip 54r. I have started to reload because my Mosin sniper likes the heavy stuff & there is not much out there. It is nice to take the Mosin shooting & not have to clean corrosive stuff out of the gun after shooting reloads.(my reloads are a little more accurate anyway) LOL

Smartest thing I ever did was purchase a limited edition Semi-Auto PKM 10 years ago as an investment along with a bunch of surplus 54R. I picked up a few crates of 7N1 Russian sniper 54R as well.
The PKM has more than doubled in value (they only made 270) and the 7N1 has now quadrupled as it's no longer imported.

I'm sitting on 6K mostly Bulgy and Russian.  Glad I bought when it was relatively inexpensive. I'm not really sure if I have enough as I have 7 91/30's, 4 M-44's, one 1938 and one PSL. So long as I don't retire, I should have enough.

I have 16k of surplus. I guess I will sell it all one day when I retire.
