......to properly heat treat the FCG holes or do I need to use the mapp/oxygen combo? Also would a pencil flame torch head work, I read somewhere that most people use a wide flame torch.

Absolutely.  I have heat treated dozens of holes and ejectors with MAPP with zero problems.

the larger head works alot better but you can do it with the small it just takes 2x as long
