A little off the thread, but if the barrels in these kits can't be used, (The AMD 65 kits for example)what's a legal way to do a home build-an older barrel/trunion? Theoretically, if the magazine was not detachable, that would make the gun like an SKS, and ok to use the barrel with the kit, right?

yeah, im also thinking about an AMD-63, 16.25 in barrel( or around there) its also got a solid wood stock.

The prohibition on barrels in the kits only applies to them being used in their original configuration; i.e. using the AMD65 barrel as it is, with a 12 inch barrel. But screw a barrel extension of 4 inchs on it, and it is now legal to use. Todd at InRange sells them for like $15.
