"Got my FSB for my SAR2 from K-Var today and, DOH, the holes for the pins dont go all the way through."
the cast in holes are "starter holes". each rifle must be drilled as it is assembled.
"I need someone within reasonable range of Everett to bore them out for me. The dia is about 1/16th of an inch, probably a little thicker than the diameter of the lead in a No2 pencil."
the factory pins are 3mm (.118"). your redrilled holes need to be slightly larger. i suggest .125" (1/8").
"All the gunsmiths around here will take weeks, and charge an arm and a leg. I'm not adverse to paying for the service, but $30 for two measily little holes that take ten seconds and no skill on a drill press?"
do be so sure. the rifle must be properly clamped to keep it from moving. the vvl. steel is hard and the fsb casting is soft. drill walk or breakage is possible if the job isn't done correctly.
"Any Mr.Fixits out there who can help me?"
how about "mr. do-it-yourself" giving you a little advice?
drill presses are cheap. you can buy one for about $50...or less. buy a drill press, a drill press vise and a set of drill bits. this is a lifetime investment in tools that will make your life easier time and time again. if your local smiths charge $30, it's half paid for in doing just your rifle.
