On most of the semiauto handguns I have I have polished the bottom of the slide to a mirror polish to reduce friction of the slide running over the rounds in the magazine. In all cases it has reduced the brass buildup on the slide and in some cases even improved reliability. I was wondering if there are any benefits to doing this on an AR carrier or will it hurt the gun in some way ( bolt velocity ect.).

wont hurt a thing. I thin RRA does that to there complete rifles.

I know all my carriers got smoth after a few 1000 down range.

I polished the bottom of one of my bolt carriers once with Brasso. Nothing like a mirror finish, just a quick polishing. Didn’t see any increase in operation. As mentioned……..range time will take care of that!
