I can properly install an LPK in under 10 min.  So can he.

Naw dude!  Once you figure it out one you will be able to do it with your eyes closed!

I have before, I just was trying to save some time by having them do it for me.

Agree that cutting it should do the trick.  Take your time and go slow.  Lesson learned.  It's really only an aesthetic issue.  Could have been way worse.

I would fix this for you for free if you were local.

Cut the trigger guard out.

It’s one of these. https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-m4a1-stripped-lower-receiver.html

I will cut it out with a dremel later. Thanks for your help guys.

There you go. Best solution. Good luck.

Ok, so it was my first time using a dremel (yeah yeah, go ahead and laugh, but it is what it is). I cut it out, worked fine.  I nicked the inside of the magwell with it, but won't be visible at all once a new trigger guard is installed.

Thanks for the help, all.

I'll keep working with a dremel so I can be more precise.  Lesson learned: don't have the gun shop do the assembly for you, when you can do it yourself.  Also, learn to dremel.

Good deal, glad you were able to get it worked out.  That lower now has character.

Grab some Aluminum Black from your local sporting goods store.  Wipe the bare aluminum with some acetone (fingernail polish remover works in a pinch) to degrease, and it'll fix that nick and the ones around the detent hole right up.  If you let the aluminum oxidize the treatment won't take so do it soon.

Put a dab of Aluminum Black on that spot, first degrease it and be done with it.  Now please don't report back that you snapped an ear off...

I’d eyeball carefully, and center-punch & drill a hole in the other side.   IIRC some lowers are made that way.

Punch the pin out, turn tg around & call it good.

I would print a couple 36” posters with the first image and make a sign to give the gunshop - you know, as advertising for their “Gunsmithing Services”...

ETA - If you’re willing to get/borrow a Dremel, the above is best option @ this point.

But why even try to save the trigger guard at this point?  Just cut it the way shown above and move on with life.

I once bought a used lower, the set screw for the Magpul trigger guard was stripped out. I dremeled the trigger guard pretty much like you did, OP.

Worked out just fine.

I’m a machinst here, and that’s why I do things myself. No going to pay some hack to screw up something. If I screw it up that’s on me and usually I can fix it.

Yep.  Alumahyde from Brownells should work well.

You can remove the superglue with acetone. Let it soak then flush it out.

Pick up some Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black if you want to color the place you nicked back black.

Everybody should have some Birchwood Al black on their workbench.

Amazon Product
  • Room temperature chemical
  • Used by gunsmiths and industry to blacken aluminum parts
  • Restores scratched & marred areas quickly

Dremel off the trigger guard carefully. It is aluminum so will cut easily.
Roll pin should then come out easy.
