Building an upper today with a Noveske pinned gas block. If you've never built a Noveske barrel before their gas block pins are VERY tight.

Finally drove the pin in completely which was quite the ordeal. Went to install the barrel on the upper and yep, forgot the barrel nut. Now I can't get the pin back out

Only smart people so.

Except the smartest people have KAC Mod 2s.

I'd venture that most in this subforum have been there, done that, and earned a dunce cap.

Make lemonade!  This is a good excuse to get an arbor press!  Any situation that forces you to acquire tools is a win.

Ha, BTDT but not with a pinned block (set screw).  Get it all lined up, loctited, and then some choice words.

To make that mistake with a normal gas block and pins can be considered a minor inconvenience, with a noveske gas block that approaches the definition of tragedy.

My first noveske barrel gas block removal and installation accounted for enough shouting and swearing to peel paint, on my second I was smart enough to order it with the gas block not installed.

OP, here is what you do. Get yourself a can of Kroil (Kanokroil), and squirt both sides of the pin. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and punch out with an appropriate sized punch and hammer.

I spent a good 30 minutes smacking away at a BCM upper so I could install a Samson rail. Peened the hell out of the Noveske gas block punches I was using. So I soaked it in Kroil, came back with some Starrett punches, and three smacks of the hammer later the first pin was out. Kroil soak is now the first step I do whenever messing with a gas block.

I ended up just using a regular roll pin vs the spring pin.

I oiled the roll pin/put it in the freezer for a bit.

Made it alot easier to drive it in with a rollpin punch.

I know the feeling... I have an Oly Arms A2 Upper without an end cap on it right now. It's been like that for the past two months.... Feels good when you obviously fudge up

Sounds like something that I would do.

So when you do place the barrel nut on before installing the gas block, just make sure
you have the barrel nut installed in the right direction - threads first. Imagine how pissed
you would be to get it wrong again.

We've all done stupid stuff like that before. Put the blame on you were in a hurry, got distracted by someone or did not get a good night sleep. I do that and it makes me feel better

That is why I stop and take a sip of beer between steps. Gives me time to assess the mistakes I'm about to make.
