I installed a VLTOR set screw gas block by dimpling the barrel.  I used a jig from BRD engineering.  As is commonly the case, the gas port is not exactly top dead center with the indexing pin, so the block is canted slightly.  I don't really care about the aesthetics of it, what I'm wondering is if barrel flex will be enough for the block to contact the handguard under firing.

That should be okay.

It is fine, you won't get that much barrel flex, normally it is in the hundreds of inches at the most, most of the time it is not that much.  I looks like you have at least a 1/16 of an inch there.
