Yep, we had a jig and he helped me. The drilling and milling looks like shit on a white house. But all in all I can't complain, he did help me out! I'm appreciative of that.

Thanks for the heads up about the pics

Almost there.  Need an aluminum stock, a handguard mounted top rail, flashing removed from the FSB as well as bayo lug, and an A1 ejection port and an XM16E1 upper.  Kinda going for a mid-length 609 thing.  I will probably add a JP or Armaspec silent buffer as well as an adjustable gas block.

Base is a Brownells XM177E2
Magazine is a Brownells 25 straight reproduction based off of prototypes
Handguard is an S&W M&P10 (Slim CAR-15 style)
Optic is an Elbit Falcon Mark I RDS
Mount is an A.R.M.S. #39

Is that an old Scalarworks mount design, before they started using the thumb screws? I feel like I've seen it from another company like SI or Fortis or something.

Are you getting a dust cover? I know for range shooting it isn’t necessary but it is satisfying to check the chamber and then flip that dust cover closed.

My first AR pistol (technically “firearm”)

It’s kind of a quasi FBI clone.
Poverty pony lower, MBT, Stag LPK, Spikes ST-T2 buffer, SBA3

Aero upper, Toolcraft BCG, BA 11.5” Gov’t profile barrel and GB, Geissele Mk8 DDC 9.5” handguard, Raptor CH, A2 FH, Arms 71 BUIS, Surefire G2 in Arisaka mount with PA Tapeswitch, AP PRO

And based on my tape measure, it’s 26 1/4” long to the end of the muzzle threads with the brace collapsed.

Build #17, mostly with parts I had laying around.

80% billet lower
PSA upper reciver
BFI NOS 16" chrome lined 1/9
PSA LPK, BCG & FCG
MAGPUL stock & grip

It was going to be all red to match my Jeep and do a Jeep theme, but half way through it I sold the red one and got a new blue Jeep so this it what happened.

I built this a few years ago when I won a Larue barrel giveaway.  18" 223 wylde Stealth barrel, Mega billet upper/lower/rail, Geissele mount and SSA-E.  This past weekend I changed the stock to a UBR 2.0 and swapped out the flash hider.

Here is my build that I have been working on for years, this is my first and only AR. It's been shootable in various configs for 3 years now (I had an 18" 3-gun barrel on it when first built, thinking it would be a do-all precision/etc rifle) but now I think I have it how I want it for a "home defense" setup, which is the role it is now firmly entrenched in.

My goal is to not make any more changes to it until I have gone through a 6-hour defensive carbine course at a local shooting range. The same range hosts Gunsite's only "satellite location" handgun course so I am fairly sure a course there should be pretty good. I've never had any real training, and to be honest have not even broke in this rifle, probably less than 250 rounds through it (first and second barrel combined).

I spent the last 2 days watching youtube and FINALLY, got the VTAC sling adjusted and mounted in a way that is super comfortable to me. I hated the thing since I bought it. Learning yesterday that I could undo the velcro tab and make it even tighter was what finally pushed it over the top for me, until that time I thought I just couldn't have it both adjusted for  "loose enough" and "tight enough" at the same time.

I spent the last 90 mins moving the tape switch from 12 oclock to 11. It is much more comfortable for me to use this way and I can activate it with my fingertips if I switch to my weak hand. This required me to install an extra picatinny rail section which adds weight, I didn't want to commmit to the VHB 3M tape yet.

The rifle seems pretty heavy for what it is. 7 lb 14 oz unloaded. Not quite sure what I can do there as far as 16" barrels go, maybe that is the price to pay for the light and optic. The Samson Evolution rail is fairly light for it's length class. If I was going to re-build it, I definitely would go with an MLOK rail setup, I have grown to dislike working on the Evo. ALG EMR probably in my future at some point, I would be able to save some oz by switching pic sections to magpul polymers.

I need to get used to zip ties on a rifle...

Lower:
LaRue MBT-2S trigger
Magpul CTR
MOE+ Grip + trigger guard
Aero Receiver
CMMG LPK
Noveske QD endplate

Upper:
Criterion Lightweight Pencil 16" 223 Wylde Barrel
GFH MOD4 CH
Magpul PRO BUIS (more oz, I know)
Primary Arms Advanced Red Dot optic w/ PA co-witness base
BCG/Bolt is from ARPerformance where I bought my first 18" barrel from, he says it's same as BCM/Colt/FN bolt, who knows
Samson Evo 12.37" rail
DD lo pro clamp on gas block
Streamlight Railmount 1 on a Haley Thorntail SBR mount, tape switch mounted to accessory pic rail

VTAC Padded sling

Edited to Add : Seems like it was a waste of time to take pics with my wife's Canon Rebel, I swear that my iPotato could have done as good a job by the time I resized them!

There are lots of ways you could go about cutting weight, but they start to get expensive. Barrels are usually the main culprit, but yours is a good choice if you're determined to stick to 16". The whole light set up is definitely weighing you down, but kind of important for home defense gun. The tape switch isn't a mandatory feature though, so you could just go to a tail click. If you wanted to keep the switch but get rid of the zip ties, look at Cloud Defensive.

Honestly though, if you only have 250 rounds through the gun, I'd suggest buying and shooting through a case of ammo with ready up drills before you spend anymore on the gun. Shoot 3" circles from 5 yards away until you can do it automatically from low ready. Then do it faster. Then do it farther out. Rinse, repeat.

Your KAC rail is backwards, at least the top piece anyway. There should also be a screw that tensions the lock bar that fits under the forward lip barrel nut.

Funny thing about my AR15, when my buddy was finishing it he messed up drilling the holes for the FCG, I didn't notice it so we take it out to break it in and the disconnecter binds and the damn thing goes full auto. I had only put three rounds in the magazine, because that is what you do. The cool thing was that you couldn't hear the individual shots. It cycled so fast that it sounded like one long shot. So I guess no cycling issues, FTF, FTE, etc. We ran a few single rounds through it to sight it in and called it a day.

I still have to move the fore grip and bipod back and flip the bipod around. Not to mention re-drilling the FCG holes and doing some trigger work on it.

Edit :  OK, how do I get the images to display inline and not as links?

Edit : how do you get a sig?

My first and probably only (unless wife comes around) build.  Huge thank you to @StraightMiataMan for creating a build list for my budget and graciously supplying a few parts to get me started!!!  I hope I can pay his kindness forward in the future.

The details:

- Alex Pro Firearms lower
- Aero Precision LPC
- Aero Precision 16" 5.56 mid-length upper with 12" ATLAS R-One M-LOK handguard
- PSA NiB Premium BCG
- LaRue MBT-2S Trigger
- ExpoArms Buffer
- UTG Super Slim Fixed sights
- Magpul ODG furnature

I'll add a light and optic, but for now just excited to have it built.  Now to get to the range...
