Chris,

That's a YHM two piece non free-float forearm.
http://www.yhm.net/store/forearms.html

Troy rear BUIS

YHM front:
http://www.yhm.net/store/sights.html

I prefer Daniel Defense handguards (lighter, oval/fits hand better) to YHM (round, heavy), but I like their gas blocks, which I consider an economical and satisfactory alternative to PRI.

This is its companion gun fitted out with PRI sight, DD FF rail and Troy rear:

I really like what you did with this rail and have been wanting to do the same thing to mine, I just didn't know how it would look.  I have seen other handguards that look like that go for $300-400 so I am glad there are cheaper options out there.  How is the fit and feel?  Does it stay solidly in place?

I am just curious how you mounted the red dot at the angle you did.  The YHM website shows that these handguards have a hole for sling mounting.  What mount did you use for the sling mount hole?

Hondaman:
Please tell me about the second rifle in the second pic; I'm interested in the handguard/upper combo.  What's it called?  charlesdalydefense dot com shows a similar setup, but not for sale & no details on it.
Thanks.

Here is my first build. Real generic OLL lower, used Armalite upper with an LMT carry ahndle and ACE stock.
SHot it last night and other than the huge balll of flame, ( to be negated with a muzzle break), all works very well.

Hey there.... long time troller, first time poster.

Just finished my first build, long range tack driller.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3324/3188494937_e0fee9f8ed.jpg?v=0

Mostly DPMS (but then, way cheaper to build than to buy DPMS!)

Lower
DPMS stripped lower
DPMS lower parts kit
CCA 6-position stock
Hogue pistol grip

Upper
DPMS stripped A3 upper
PMS upper parts kit
DPMS bolt carrier assembly*
Hogue hand grips
24" DPMS bull barrel
4-rail Gas block by someone or other (DPMS? Yankee Hill?)

Misc
Yankee Hill flip BUIS (only front's on in the shot)
Leupold 2-7x33mm VX-1
Coupla DPMS 10-rd, and John Masen 9/5-rd mags
Cheap bipod from... somewhere.

Total cost is in the neighborhood of $800, including scope.

Friendly criticism welcome, I've yet to run any rounds through it, so knock on wood for when I do. ANyone have a ballpark for how far I should be able to shoot with this? If I can get on a 600 yard range, should I be able to hit targets at the end?

*This is the only bit of DPMS I wasn't 100% happy with. I thought I was buying a kit, since I assembled everything else from bits, but it turned out to be an assembly. Thiking "Eh, stripping it down counts as building from sratch!" I pulled it all apart and found... really really shoddy construction. Nothing was oiled, hardly anything was lubed. The firing pin just about wouldn't move, the extractor wouldn't move no matter how hard I tried to move it. Gas rings were.... mostly on. Just bad all around. I put it back together right, but can't help but wonder what would have happened if someone bought it thinking they could just drop it in.

I am guessing gun shoots great, but you may boost up the power for those long shots....

If the gun is $800..... time for $1000 plus or more for scope!

+1, also, I'd consider getting rid of that cheap bipod, get one that attaches to your handguards, it will be better in the long run from an accuracy stand point.

Finally, I'm starting to get my parts for my AR!  This is my first AR, and I'm building it myself from scratch.  It's not much, but here it is so far, lol:

http://i42.tinypic.com/fxyywh.jpg

This is a lower from LAR.  I'm building the rest of it from a Del-Ton kit (since this is my first, I didn't wanna spend too much money on it, and they're highly recommended anyways).  Mid-length kit.  I ordered the kit back in the beginning of December, I'll post pics of my sweet first build when I'm done!  YAY!

Took the wife to the Hunting cabin and she shot my rifle for the first time. She then went through all my ammo.

So I said to myself; "Self" I'm going to build her her own rifle so she will leave mine alone..

She was less than excited, but wants me to paint it "Pink".
I shiver at the thought. But after some headaches. I now have a picture of a white rifle with a Pink Camo pattern in my head.

It just might work after all like a winter camo job. I'll post up more pics when it's done.

I kept it as light as possible for her.  I was impressed with the quality compared to my Rock River barrel.
