I was flamed by someone in this forum who said I was bragging about dropping over $2K on a "useless" PDW.  Never did I mention how much I spent on the parts.  Didn't realize I had to run it by "him" to get approval on what to spend "my" money on.  Majority of the parts were free (I do T&Es for certain manufacturers and one of the perks is that I get to keep the stuff at no cost).  I thought they cleaned this place up, but I guess they still have a few "ego-maniacs" out there.  Anyways, thanks for your comments RoadWarrior.

I've dropped over $1500 on an AR just because it was with the parts I wanted and it made me happy, I am in no way a tier anything operator, I plink and hunt.  Would I be ok with a $500 PSA budget rifle, most likely yes but I like to support site sponsors.  OP do what makes you happy, if you have the stuff laying around then more power to you to build it how you want

They should wander into the lightweight threads and see the stupid crap people (including me) spend money on. It's your money, cover your needs (so the rest of us/the government don't have to) but beyond that, go nuts and buy what you enjoy.

It's still a work in process - I'd like to get a higher powered scope (currently a 2-7) and a different stock - but I'm happy with where it's headed.

These are my first shots after zeroing the rifle. Certainly not world beating, but not bad for me with a 7x optic.

Parts arrived today which allowed me to complete this rifle.

The Guntec billet upper worked really well with the SI-Defense lower receiver in color and what I'd call visual compatibility.  The way SI-Defense milled this lower, a standard forged upper just looked out of place to my eyes, so I began looking for some cleaner looking billets.

I had considered using the Bootleg upper, but the way they milled it, the visual appearance looked 'backwards to me' so I kept the search up until I found the Guntec with F/A and port door from Primary Arms for $95.

I had also done a littler research regarding the H&K 416/MR556 charging handle, and figured out a milspec charging handle would accept the 416/MR556 latch.  I installed it on a CH today and am glad I picked it up for this project.  I would compare it to a Raptor's latch in terms of size and texture.

During the installation of the Fortis handguard, I discovered the way Guntec milled their receiver, the anti-rotation tabs on the REV2 would not allow it to be installed, so I removed them.  It makes sense to me why Guntec chose to design their handguards like the Noveske NSR, with a flush mounted rail that goes over a barrel nut allowing 6 points of fastening.  I'd like to see Guntec further eliminate some of the excess of their receiver, but all in all I think it was worth the $95 I paid for it.  Also, the Magpul SL-K closes fully on a LMT buffer tube with the KAC non-rotational sling swivel mount PN 22051-1.

Trying out this Guntec billet upper on a handful of lowers has got me thinking it would be a good option for several MFGs.

I have pictured it with:
SI Defense Gen4
Quentin Defense
S&W Magpul edition

I also tried it with my ADM UIC, but their installed bolt catch on the left side would not clear the cutout made in the Guntec billet upper.  It was a very minimal amount of obstruction and I think if you were set on it, you could make it work by relieving the back side of the catch and refinishing.

I also figured out the S&W Magpul edition lower lines up fairly well with a CMT upper

JR22, does the Odin Works Adjustable Gas Block make contact with the Geissele SMR MK8?  My research indicates that the rail ID and gas block outer edge OD are both 1.35".

Odin Works Adjustable Gas Block Profile Dimensions

Can you add a link/picture looking from the muzzle?

Thanks.

I just got two tax stamps (control 20163225xx range if anyone is interested in where the AFT is at these days) back from the ATF last week and finished putting these together last night. The top one is a 5.56. It has a Seekins upper and lower, 12" Seekins MCSR hand guard, SD tactical brake (for the coming one of these days 8" SD Tactical Form 1 titanium suppressor) Seekins adjustable gas block, 14.5" FN made M249 spec carbine barrel, Rubber City full mass M16 bolt carrier and bolt, BCM charging handle, pistol grip, buffer tube and stock, Giessele SD-C trigger and twisted wire buffer spring with their H buffer, Mepro M-21 optic and Magpul Pro offset BUIS.

The stand alone upper goes on lower number 1. Aero upper, same MCSR hand guard, Noveske 8.5" 300 Blackout barrel with the SD Tactical brake (for the other coming one of these days 8" SD tactical Form 1 titanium suppressor), EOTech 512 optic and MI BUIS.

The bottom one is an 11.5" budget (except for the Geissele SSA trigger and Aimpoint H-1 optic) build I did for Mama so she could have something light. Sabre lower. Off the shelf PSA 11.5" freedom upper. She's a lefty so there is an ambi charging handle and safety. It's just a tad over 6 lbs with the optic and BUIS. One of these days I may swap out the barrel for something with a light weight profile, and see if I can bring that down a little more.

Gave the AR15 some much needed upgrades tonight! Added a Larue tactical A-PEG grip, and a Magpul CTR with Larue tactical RISR.
Also the Magpul MS4 Sling and foregrip! And to finish her off a CMC triggers drop in flat 3.5# trigger! Cant wait to put some rounds through it now!
