I am racking my brain over which barrel I should use on my new build which will be my new patrol rifle. This rifle will be in a rack in my car so I want a 14.5 " barrel and the only optics will be the high speed iron sights, which I will add to a rail.

There are so many barrels I have looked at LMT M4, Colt M4 Socom (that Skich sellls on EE), Bushmaster M4 and the JTAC Recon. Can I get some recommendations for the above barrels and if I have missed a good thing please suggest. My barrel budget is 350-400 +- a few bucks.

I bought an M4 SOCOM from CMMG and would recommend them in a heartbeat. Not only is it a perfect barrel, but their service and support after the sale was EXCELLENT!

I've heard good things about CMMG's 14.5". I just bought a 14.5" midlength...cant wait to put it together.

Colt SOCOM (Skich barrel) or Bravo Company Manufacturing (BCM) lightweight. These two have all of the QC done, proofed and MP'd. Also parked under the FSB and use taper pins.

Bushmaster 16" SuperLight barrel cut down to 14.5" with a phantom flash hider . Light, fast, highly effective.

CMMG only for my patrol carbines. beware of bushmaster as i've noticed a trend with their chambers made a little on the tight side causing malfunctions with my squadmates. oh, unless you have an M203 grenade launcher, there is absolutely no need to get an M4 step down profile barrel. get a lightweight barrel and put on a bigger flashlight. cause barricaded subject calls suck with a front heavy barrel!

CMMG's light wieght is probably the only barrel I wouldn't get from them..

Would be nice if it was a true light weight, but they use a standard A2 FSB, so it's "heavy" right there. Maybe has to do with the F marked FSB bit.. but yeah.

i'll take 4-5 oz. of extra barrel for an "F" marked FSB. a decent trade off IMHO.

Thanks guys, trust me I realize just how heavy my current rifle gets thats why I'm looking light and shorter. Think I'll give CMMG a call and order a 14.5 or 14.7 up.

a .040 extra length FSP will give ya the same thing a F marked FSB will. not all milspec but cheaper, and not stuck with a barrel with a F marked base
