Took me alittle over an hour to complete my first lower, not bad. I used a Double Star lower, RRA LPK and 6 position stock, Magpul trigger guard, and a Hogue grip. I got hung up for a minute with the hammer, but other than that no problems what so ever. I will also say the pivot pin install tool really helped.

I think the Double Star logo is sweet! By far one of the best. I am considering one of these lowers for my build-in-progress.

solving a problem before it becomes one also keeps another thread from starting about light primer strikes or the like.

Looks to me the trigger spring is in wrong to. Looks like it comes over the top around the trigger.

Edit... This is how NOT to put on a hammer spring.

I think the trigger spring is fine. The legs do go under and not over.

Ok, lets try this again. Does this look right?

Link Posted: 2/7/2006 6:54:39 AM EDT
yep that is correct

No scratches on the receiver from the Bolt catch roll pin install?
Link Posted: 2/7/2006 8:06:11 AM EDT
Nope, not a one. I looked and looked for some masking tape, but all I had was your normal everyday tape. So, I used what I could. I put one layer of tape from the hole to just about the back of the receiver. Used a small hammer to get it most of the way in, than a punch to finish it up. I was suprised, for my first build I kept it really clean. As far as I know I didn't put a scratch one on it.

LOL, thats not our tree, its just more stuff my wife thinks she HAS to buy when all the stuff is on sale afterwards(in the picture is like 3 wreaths stacked on top of each other). I swear, now she talks about putting up an easter tree. Oh well, she let me build this rifle, so I dont care what she buys. As for the 18 days, thats when the big National Gun day show is in Louisville. I figured I'd go up there first and see what I can find. If I don't find something, I'm getting an upper delievered over-night

Nice lower...I too have the Double Star and just love the dragon emblem.

On a different note, where in KY are you, Pred? I'm in Lexington. Know of a good (commercial) place to shoot around here? I've got to go 90+ miles just to pull a trigger.

WOW... 90 miles. The only range I know of close by(atleast to me, about 3 miles away) is a range down in Junction City that I go to. They've really improved it alot over the past year or so. The range goes out to 300 yards, has a nice little pistol range, and a place to shoot skeet. I think its like $15-$20 a year.

Junction City isn't too bad of a drive...41.5 miles from my house, roughly an hour on those roads. Just sucks that there are no ranges in Lexington. I drive out to a friends farm on the otherside of Winchester, about an hour East, to get a little practice time.

+1 for getting an upper from a reputable dealer here at arfcom.

I thought the 'legs' of the hammer spring went under the trigger pin, not on top. Does it matter?
Link Posted: 2/7/2006 10:50:23 AM EDT
I got this off the lower assembly guide:

" Ends of the hammer spring will rest on top of the trigger pin, with one end in the groove on the trigger pin."

congrats!

nice feeling isn't it?

Yeah, it is actually. I'm glad I took everyones advice and built my own instead of just buying a complete lower. It's nice knowing how everything goes together. Really, I want to do it agian. I wish I had another lower to put together tonight

I think I'm going to put a 20" upper on this rifle. That way, 6 months from now I can say somethings not right, and than build another one for the 20". Than I'll need a 16" upper, than I'll have enough spare parts, I might as well build a third. Ohhh my wife is gonna kill me.
