It's really not a good idea to use gauges that are relieved all the way around the base.
This reduces the accuracy of the gauges when you reduce over 50% of the flat bearing surface. This is probably why you don't see gauges made that way anymore. For $5 per gauge, I can grind a nice relief groove on one side to clear the ejector. Some Manson gauges come this way, but Manson gets $26 per gauge, ouch! |

That's what I'm looking for. It doesn't have to turned down all the way around, just enough to not require the removal of the ejector. Do you carry any gauges that already have this done?

Sorry, I only have the gauges I use myself. There's no discount to be had on headspace gauges. I can't buy them any cheaper than you can, so it makes no sense for me to keep them in stock. |

could someone go over the proper usage of the 3 different gauges? go, no go and field.
i have always used a field gauge but feel like i may be missing out on something important. thanks. |

The way I intrepreted the headspace tacked thread is to just get the .223 Remington/SAAMI Field gauge. If the bolt closes with this, do not shoot the rifle. If the bolt does not close with this gauge, you're good to go.
The other way I interpreted the thread is that as long as you use good parts (quality barrel, new bolt), you don't worry about headspacing. |
