Lower Vise Block For Barrel Removal?

Would a lower receiver vise block (block inserted in mag well and clamped down) be sufficient to hold an AR in place while the barrel is replaced, or is an upper reciever action block the only option?

I realize that the upper reciever action block would be ideal, but would the lower block work?

No..you would put a signifcant amount of force on it and you could damage the recievers...

You need to use a upper block in a vise.

Panther Receiver Claw.

My understanding of the original question is that the question is whether a mag well based block was sufficient for barrel work.

I was thinking he was asking about something along the lines of "The Flipper" for re-barreling.

I have one of the Peace River/Brownell's reciever blocks. I prefer that over the DPMS blocks.

I like the way that it secures the upper. I think that, IMO, that the block like the Peace River/Brownell's one is better.
