I recently assembled a ARFX stock poorly (no lube on the foam tube, and the foam failed soon after).  When I replaced it, I read the forum here and found some lubrication suggestions, but some were oils and such that stayed behind and left an odor.

When I installed my new foam tube, I decided to try something different, so I stole an idea from RC cars -- glass cleaner.  Windex made it slip on easily and evaporated clean, one day later, there's no odor, and the foam is in perfect condition.

hair spray is the old standby for installing foam or "rubber" grips on bikes and motorcycles. rubbing alcohol works good too!
