I tried using 44/40 to darken a manganese park job on a 1911. It did definitely darken it but I didn't get that 'black-as-sin' dark that I am looking for. I am thinking about trying the homemade hot blue formula with a nitrate and lye.

Anyone else try hot blueing over park.

Yes i had very good results with the Birchwood Casey Gun Blue Paste, For best results on Phosphate do not polish the Finish with fine steelwool as you would on regular Blue finish leave it as its , For a darker Finish make several Applications , i did that on my Ruger P89 Slide and on the Barrel of my L1A1, very good product works better than the liquid Blue IMO.

I have tried almost every cold blue bottle stuff on the market and none of them last. save your pennys and let your gunsmith do it right.
