Well all, the sickness never quite ends.  For some reason, I had a bug to build or aquire a galil. But, because of $$$$, import regs, difficulty of build, etc., it would make more sense to build a galil-inspired AR-15.  For reference, I have (hopefully) inserted this image of a galil.



Forget about the bipod, and imagine there is an ARMS scope mount/receiver cover on it.  What do you think I would need to approximate this?  Right now I have a RR lower and lower parts kit. I am thinking about:


skeleton stock (ACE?)
flattop upper
fold down rear site
M4/carbine barrel
handguards???

Chime in guys. This is going to be my 2004 commemorative AW. More evil = better.

There are 2 (at least) uppers that already have a gas piston outside the upper for the AR-15.  Olymipic and I forget the other (there was talk about a group purchase of the other one a while back).  One of the things that the AR has going for it though is the gas system.  The gas flows into the carrier and pushes the bolt forward with the same force that it pushes the carrier to the rear.  This is what makes the action so robust.  With out that you just have another gas piston operated rifle.

Get some surplus Galil handguards, and turn the O.D. of freefloat aluminum handguard down as far as you can, on a lathe. Then sleeve the Galil handguards on the freefloat, and put a fakey gas tube on top!

I bet you could sneak an el-cheapo laser pointer inside the fakey gas tube, making it a  sleeper feature!

I want a flashlight that looks and mounts like a grenade launcher... if I ever get around to it!
