I have assembeled several lower receivers and put commercial uppers on them.  I would like to learn how to build my own complete upper.

Can anyone tell me how difficult this is, special tools that are needed, etc?  Is it cheaper to purchase commercial uppers then it is to build your own?  How difficult is it to headspace the AR's?  Where do you buy your parts.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Where do want to start?

If you buy a barrel assembly or a barrel with extension and gas port already installed it's not that hard.  The head space is set when the extension is installed.

You'll need a barrle nut wrench ($25 for the good one), upper action block and filler, and a torque wrench, in addition to the verious punches and other tools you already have to assemble a lower.  A barrel block might come in handy as well.
