I also cant decide on a EOTech 552 or Aimpoint Comp M to use with my 7D's. Last question What are your toughts on Surefires 900 series foregrip/light? I see they have one with a IR Illuminator.
Depends on the distance you need for the IR illuminator. Anytime you put a infrared filter over an incandescent light source you loose a good portion of the light. For longer range, a dedicated IR illuminator is the way to go. Surefire's M1 is great out to a TRUE 50 yards and this one "Da-Torch" "Da-Torch"
is good out to 300M! This illuminator is a fixed beam and have been VERY well received here and in the industry!! I am about to publish a IR illuminator shootout here that compares 4 different IR illuminators. Hope this helps
Edited to add....For NV work, the EO is the way to go because of much less body housing obstruction. the FOV of the EO is superb vs. the AP while viewing through NV gear. Btw, I see your using 7's or going to be at least? I always found it a bit akward to cheekweld and shoot with this setup. It works, but a just a bit cumbersome. The best setup thus far I found is to use the 7's with a laser of some sort and just shoot from the ready. Actaully a tecnhique I use for all my NV fear lately.
Also, we've started a dedicated NV forum here. ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=6&f=18
