Over heats rifle.
No free float.
No vertical grip.
Heavy.
Has issues with fit if you use an ARMS 38ex rail.

Check the equipment exchange for the best price.

There will be a list of disadvantages to any light you might get. These are just ones for the M500. Its not to say it is a bad system, it isnt. But what Dev says is true. If you dont want a free floating rail system or forward grip, the M500 is a great set up. The FF rail system plus light does offer advantages, but also cost a lot more in total. So everything is a trade off...

The 500A is a convenient, no wires set up that is always with the gun.  For daylight prectice and to save a few ounces you can remove the batteries and lamp module and put in the supplied plug.  If you do not want a vertical grip, it is not a bad system and costs a lot less than a RAS plus a separate light.  The dual heat shielded handguards do retain a lot of heat, but if you are firing only semi auto, it probably is not an issue.

Here's the one I just sold:

it will be on a semi only rifle

but i will go through around 600-1000 rounds in a shooting session with my buds

im not sure i want the vertical yet i have mixed feelings about it

what i should do is buy another carbine and put a RIS on it have one vertical and one w/o :)

The M500 isn't that heavy.

I would also suggest removing one or both of the heat shields on the upper handguard. That will increase airflow signifigantly. I have my M 500 mounted so the light is on the lower handguard.

I agree the M500 isn't that heavy. My AR did weigh a ton when I had that and a Redi-Mag installed. It is great if you don't use a vertical grip or like to hold the front of your lower receiver.I sold mine only because I still prefer to use the vertical grip. You can find them new on the E&E for about $325 or about $280-$300 used.

The M500 is not heavy at all and I have had no overheating problems.  It is an excellent, single unit light.  No external wires or pressure switches to mount.  I shot close to 1000 rounds a day in my qualification course for my PD and had no complaints with it at all.  I would highly recommend it.  I bought mine at a local shop when I got my Bushy and it was around $375.
