i own a 6p currently and was considering purchasing a G2 for field use.  Do they both use the sme batteries?  What are the negatives associated with the G2 that make it cost half as much as the 6p light?  or what does the 6p have that makes it cost twice as much?  As far as i can tell they both use the same lamp assembly and have a similar design tube.

Got the perfect reply from fight4yourrights via im

Functionally, the 6P and G2 are identical. Same batteries, same bulbs, same threads on bodies, interchangeable components (parts are different, such as the smaller button on the tailcap of the G2). The G2 is lighter. I won't be buying any more 6P's since the G2 is available. Same controls.

I've bought red filters for several of my units when I don't want to trash my night vision and I don't want as big a signature, such as at night taking my dogs out. Flip the cap, and I've got full power. I like the option.

I've held off on the LED's since Surefire is releasing some MUCH better LED technology later this year. Right now, I'd go Surefire if I had to, but they still don't have the power of the standard lights.

The newer 6P's (& other models) do feature the lockout tailcap to help prevent accidental activation.  .

Yeah, I forget about that since my 2 6P's don't have it, and have the original round body.

Ditto, my old 6P hasn't got the lockout tailcap, I have discharged the batts a few times, $$.

I sell Surefires at a gunstore, G2's are the bestseller we have, will sell 5 G2's before I sell one of anything else.

BTW-The currentl LED lights dont turn me on too much, the next generation ones should though.

G2 is a little fatter.

Pelican M6 is a good low cost alternative.

You can order a LockOut TailCap "Z41" from your friendly SureFire Dealer. Personally, I'd put the money towards getting an E2e or G2Z or L4 or whatever.
