Thanks to 'Brighflashlites' and all his GREAT info, I have narrowed my lighting choice down to two.........now three options!:

1) Surefire M952 w/ ARMS QD Throw Lever-This will either be mounted one of two ways:
    1) On an Advanced Armament handguard rail infront of my Dieter CQD Vertical Grip
    2) On GG&G's Offset Light Mount

2) Surefire 678
    -Mounted onto the front sight tower

3) Surefire M900A
    -I know little to nothing about the M900A, what does it do? Will it mount onto my AA handguard rail?

Which would you choose and why????

Since you are already using a vertical grip, why not go with Surefires?  Give you the built-in navigation lights.

The choice has to be between the 678 and the M952X. Which one and why?

How much are the M900 going for? Surefires website says like $500-$600. There is NO way I can afford anywhere near that.

Surefire's suggested Retail (and what they sell it for) is usually MUCH higher than what our buddy at Brightflashlites sells it for.

Ask him for a quote before you dismiss this option

Get both! I have one carbine set up with the M900 and the 962 on the right side of the SIR. The 962 functions as a back up and you can take it off if you wish for a hand held. To avoid a tape switch, I installed a GG&G off set light adapter which drops the 962 down so I can hit the click on switch with my thumb.Then you can always use the 95/62 on another weapon also.

They are out right now, but when they are in again I'm going to check ouy Yankee Hill's adapter. It's much cheaper and smaller than the GG&G.  www.yhm.net

3 different type of Surefire lights on my kids.

The classic 9v is a great light, but the newer surefire are much better looking and the quick detachable feature build into the light housing is a havensend.  I haved used Surefire weapon lights since the late 80s and never had a problem.  if you already have a forward grip, get the M952SU which is a excellent light and the ARMS throw lever makes it that much easier for removal.  I like my M900 but I love my M962SU, if you need a navi LED light, I usually clip a LED key chain light somewhere on me it is a lot easier to point the key chain LED at a map or someone then your entire rifle.

I thought you were mounting all this to a Knight's RAS?

Either or...I've got the 900A a friend has the side mount system. Both work exceptionally well.

I'm going through same problem now, trying to decide on which Surefire to get.

I think I've pretty much decided on the M962C, it the model with the SW02 tailcap that allows momentary and constant on.

I'll be mounting it on my SIR 50 with a GG&G offset rail mount at the 5 o'clock position.  The offset mount looks like it will put the light at the perfect location for manipulation with the support hand thumb.

I can also mount the M962C at 9 o'clock it I want to use it without the vertical grip ans still activate with my support hand thumb.

I had a really hard tme because I've wanted the M900a for a long time but in the end I feel the flexibilty of the M962C was more of an asset.  

I do feel the NAV lights are pretty cool to have but I felt the M900a left stuck in one configuration.  I also felt the M900a seemed to sit too low when mounteed on the SIR, I didn't like the fact that it seemed even longer than the mag.  Not to mention the other AR goodies I could get with the money saved![:D]

Regardless, Surefire makes excellent products and I don't think you can lose no matter which light you pick.  As always each product has it's pros and cons and you just have to pick the one that best fits your rifle's configuration.

This is a few pics of that set up. I like mine on the right side. Eventually, I will put a 952 instead.

Right now I'm back to going back and forth about the M900a and M962...[:|]  A lot will probably depend on what's available and which one I like better when it's time to purchase one.

If the SIR was made with rails at 5/7, it would be great for lights in my opinion. Having the 962 would give you the option of a handheld if needed. I just didn't care for a tape switch, that's why I put on the GG&G. Hopefully you have better luck getting one from them. They have every fing excuse in the world as to why your order takes 3 months.
Check into the Yankee Hill offset bracket. When they are available again, I may check one out to see how they work.

I like the M900A. I used a Surefire 659 for years and thought that was hot shit. Then I got to play with a M900. I love this light. I have tried and just can not get used to having my light on the side of the rifle. Maybe because I used the 659 so long? Any way, I just made a traid with a guy I work with and got a second M900.

Yes you can use the AAC rail with the M900. It is very tight but works. I an using an AAC rail on my work M4 right now with my new to me M900.
