My 1750
Left room for a future Beta C-Mag and a scope. Hell I might even fit my Glock 23 in somewhere. Each mag posistion holds 2 mags with the first being an offset double. Circular cut out is for sling/Dessicant. While I am at it..I have heard that storing rifles in these cases is not a good idea. With the proper amount of dessicant what is the problem? They are airtight after all.   |

+1 for Kyle. Bought two cases from him (pistol and rifle) and he's a great guy to deal with. Highly recommended that you support this guy. No, I don't work for him. Just had a great experience. And I'm new to the whole AR/case scene. |

Regardless of the dessicant, open cell foam will collect moisture every time it is exposed to air. |

This is just an observation, but why do you guys have your rifles pointing to the right? Is there a reason why or just a preference?

As far as pointing to the right, it is an inherent thing that is done instictively. There are many discussions in art appreciation/art psychology classes regarding this very thing, not that I would expect anyone to take one of those BORING SOB's to learn that... My question is as to why all of the weapons have been put into cutouts with the sights down when being carried by the handles of the case. It is not wise to pack your weapons in the plane of the case which makes the most ammount of damage to the sighting system possible during mishandling. I know it loses some cool factor points as you slowly open the case to admiring onlookers, but it is not the ideal choice for load integrity, which is the reason you bought that expensive case in the first place. I learned this lesson the hard way while having some very expensive camera lenses damaged during air transport to a shoot. In my case, heavy lenses should have been packed with the barrel of the lens paralel to the spine of the case, not the camera mount. Wherever in the cargo hold the cases were stowed apparently had enough vibration to eventually wear most of the way through the foam and allow the lens mount to almost rest on the spine and be impacted when pitched by the baggage handlers. I'm quite sure that the magwell/handgrip will absorb far more impact with less potential damage than the sight system.

Pelican 1720 with a Savage 10FP, Bushmaster Shorty-AK and optics. The stock for the Savage was shipped ahead FedEx in order to fit both rifles.
 Edit: The previous poster has a point about sighting systems being positioned in such a way as to utilize all the protection of the case. Since I can't predict how the case is going to be abused, I just did the best that I could.

I can think of one practical reason to point the rifles right: verifying the weapon is unloaded when traveling. It's been my experience that usually the least qualified individual will have to check to see if my rifles are unloaded, so I make it as simple as possible ( both for them and for me). |

Pelican 1700 just finished. Wish I had gotten the case a little bigger so I could fit my 1911 and suppressed Buckmark also. Traced the edges with a Sharpie and cut out with a single edge razor blade. Start to finish about 30 minutes. MadDogDan's case inspired me, I like...

I look at pointing the rifle to the right this way....I'll see if I can put this into words
 If the rifle is facing the right...as shown above (assuming you're right eye dominant) then you can grab w/ your strong hand (pistol grip hand) and quickly pull the rifle up naturally. Now if the rifle was facing to the left you could still grab the rifle by the pistol grip but your hand placement wouldn't be in it's natural resting place and you would have to do a little more to get your weapon in the ready position... Hope that makes sense and just another way to look at it. Sorry if this has been mentioned already as I didn't see it.

I would also have accepted "Staging the weapon for rapid deployment" as a reason for facing the rifle right  Speaking for myself, weapons are cased when I'm traveling, racked, slung or holstered when "in play" and otherwise secured the rest of the time. On a different, but related, topic: I've seen a couple of posters mention how they are cutting their foam but no mention on how much time it took. I've cut two different layouts now and each took about two hours. I've been using a $18 hot knife designed for Styrofoam, which I suspect is just not hot enough for the heavier closed cell foam. I cut my foam out on the back patio using a Workmate bench as a work surface. I've experiemented with mounting the hot knife to the Workmate to make a poorman's hot knife scroll saw, but it didn't work as well as I had hoped ( edges were still sawn instead of smooth ). I suspect the hot knife just needs to be hotter. |

It's all airsoft gear. I know I hijacked the thread with non real steel, but I just wanted to show the results of my case. I couldn't have done it (the foam cutting) without this forum. So thank to all for the tips and advice.

I, for one, applaud you for having the balls to come out and admit that. I think Airsoft would be a good way to get into guns if you're scared or live in an unfriendly environment. Welcome to the site and please get into actual firearms ownership. It's very rewarding and a lot more practical than Airsoft. ( and in true ARFCOM fashion, keep both ) |

Everything was built to scale and to real steel standards. The gun was originally designed just for military/law enforcement training. Needless to say, it's the ferrari of airsoft guns--and it costs relatively as much too. |

I will post a pick tonight. Just finished.
Do most people round the edges with a torch? I used a silver sharpie to mark the edges and I can see the silver. It is probably fine but it is bugging the crap out of me. Edit: Snug as a bug!

I posted these pics already in other thread, but i thought to share them in here too.
This is my solution to carry my mk18 mod0 clone and my 9mm AR  Here is what i did: - bought a pelican 1600 case with foams - Cutted the foams to fit my gun parts in - glued pieces of plywood under both foam piece - glued a thin foam under the plywood - made lifting handles from nylon strap and rubber hose (i think it was gasoline line hose )  Plywood pieces are a bit smaller than foams, so i can fit either gun in the bottom of case     Edit; fixed the links |
