Though about getting my brother a new scope for his ar10.  Used all for hunting.  Thinking about a left over Leupold vx6 2-12x42 firedot or the Zeiss Conquest dl 2-8x42 illuminated, though not familiar with the Zeiss.

Any thoughts or other recommendations.  Trying to stay short and relatively light.

Thanks.

I used aimpoint for many years and it was the quickest deadliest thing under 50 yards ever.  Now I use a Leupold 1-4 and it is very quick and versatile out to 200 yards or so.  I have been very happy with both systems.

I also have a Leupold 2-12 firedot on a bolt gun and that is GTG also for longer shots.   Under 50 yards the red dot rules.

Can't really go wrong with either.   I have a Zeiss on mine.

Vx6 is around 2 oz lighter, despite being longer, probably due to how the Zeiss illumination is on the scope bell.

Never owned a Zeiss, but figured a 2-8 with 42 obj would be great for low light.

Ended up going with the Zeiss.  So we'll see how this thing looks in a little bit.

I have a Zeiss Conquest DL in 2-8, you have made an excellent, excellent choice. Best red dot in the business, phenomenal glass for the price.

I also owned the Leupold VX-6 2-12. Glass was nowhere near as good and the malfunctioning red dot is just what I needed to sent it back.
