How off will the marking be?

Shooting this with 147 gr nato ammo.

Anyone have any idea on if this is a total waste of time?

Search the net for "jbm ballistics calculator." Enter all the applicable data for your ar10/ammo combo. Your hob (sight height) will be 2.5" if it's a plain-jane flattop. You also need muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficient of your round from a 16" bbl. Then do the same thing for the particular acog reticle you have. Zero distance for acog (and its specific mount/ammo/bbl combo) is 100 m. Mess with the zero range on your 308 calculations until you get the "match" you're looking for. Please note that the trajectory for the acog is a constant. The ta31f, for example (I think it's the one you described), is exactly calibrated for 16" bbl flattop mount and m855 ammo with a zero range of 100m. (ballistic coefficient=.304 and muzzle velocity = ca. 2989 fps).

IIRC the TA11F is pretty close out to 600 yards.
