I have a ultralight .625 , I need a front sight base. I have seen a few options but most are pretty costly. Can a larger FSB be used with shims? Can someone direct me to a place to but them cheap? I would like to find one that has screws not pins , I belive that the pined ones are drilled on the spot to fit the barrel? Anyhow any info would be very helpful.

I'm in the same boat as you regarding my Superlight. All I could find was the single rail gas block by Yankee Hill (YHM-9386A) and the PRI flip-up front sight ($$$). I decided that it just wasn't worth it (to me) to buy the $60 gas block and add a dovetail mount sight or spend the $180 that PRI wants for theirs. Good luck in your search.

J&T Distributing has .625 gas block, as well as handguard caps.

www.jtdistributing.com/

LaRue Tactical also sells a low profile, .625 gas block.
Here they are at SKDTac's website.

Just called JT , they have FSB for 40 bucks and I would have to drill the holes.
I really want one that uses screws , pins belong on an AK.

Any other options?

If you have a standard type FSB you could always tap the hole at the bottom and put a set screw in.

would I need to use the tapper pins then? sounds like a good idea, but for 40 bucks ?

No, pins belong on things that need to stay put. The front sight base is one of those. If you can get it pinned, then do it. Screws are for things that need to be taken apart.

Guess they've been doing it all wrong for almost 50 years now.

well I got the yankee hill single rail Gas block.

IMO they did it very wrong by useing the pins, not that they dont work, it just seems crude.

The one I got makes cleaning the gas tube much easier, not that i ever did it anyway.

Anyone know how much the YHM or Larue units weigh? If not, I guess I'll ask them.

Bushmaster's shaved FSB is only 1.5 oz per Forest's weight chart, but they don't sell them separately.
