I posted this earlier in the wrong forum, so perhaps it'll be better here. What would be the best ACOG or Compact ACOG for a 10.25" Colt Command to be used as a patrol carbine. Normal range would be less than 100 yards. One person suggested the 1.5x24 red triangle Compact ACOG and I think that may be a good idea. Has anyone else had experience with this or with the 2x models?

Compact ACOG would be better than a full-size ACOG. But honestly I'd prefer an Aimpoint or EOTech for sub 100y range just for the speed.

Have you considered the Trijicon Tri-Power?
For your intended purpose I think you'd be better off with that.

i would agree for less than 100yrds, you might want to get an Aimpoint or Eotech. Great for under 100yrds and a lot less $$$$

What about an Accupoint?

If you still want an ACOG, look into the 1.5x16 compact models in that they have very generous eye relief for carry handle mounting. The 3x and even the larger objective 1.5x's don't have as nice eye relief for quick shooting at close targets, IMO.

I use a 1.5x16 amber triangle on a Colt A1 9mm upper with a short ACE entry stock and it allows a nice heads-up, 2-eyes open sighting that is only 5.5 oz. added weight and lower profile than any reddot, but tough as a masonry latrine.

Cheers, Otto

ETA: fixed it! Thanks for the heads-up, Brett.

Just a thought, but...........

each ACOG is made for a particular round, receiver type, and barrel length

I would suggest contacting Trijicon Customer Service and ask them

There may be a perfect model for the 10.5" / 5.56.

Worth the time and effort. After all these things ain't cheap.

Trijicon said the best one to use would be the 1.5x16 with the red triangle for that 10.5" Colt SMG. I found one here:

http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976646317.htm

and it's sold as a new 1.5x16 Compact ACOG and the company wants $499 for them. I'm wondering if it's a deal thats too good to be true. I'm trying to find out now.

Thanks for the advice. You have to admit that a new Compact ACOG for $499 would be really nice....

Yes it would be.

BTW if it's going on a flattop - get the LaRue Compact ACOG mount.

I'm stuck with a M16A1 upper receiver. It's a box stock 10.5 Colt Commando from the 1970s. I can't change the upper receiver without having to go through a entirely new inspection and qualification. All of which takes time and is a real pain.

i like the 2x on top of an a1 upper. works great for cqb with the bindon concept and accurate enough out to 100yds

heres mine on a 9mm carbine that will be sbr'ed shortly.

Right, Midwest Distributors - they had the 1.5x16 red triangle Compact ACOGs NIB for $506.80 delivered. Roger was great to deal with and even called me with the tracking information. I wish I knew all of what they sold so I could find more great deals.

Does any one happen to have Roger at Midwest Distributor's phone number? I'd like to call and see if he has any other great ACOG deals. Thank you.
