What's the difference?
I've heard the "a" won't work with an ACOG, otehrwise which would be the better choice overall.

The only difference is the aperture.  The #40 has a "horizon line cut" in the small aperture.  The #40a2 just has a standard A2 aperture.

If you are mounting the ACOG directly to the flat top with an ARMS #19, the ARMS #40a will have a hard time getting below the scope, but the #40 will work fine with an ACOG.

I had a hard time getting a good sight picture with the shaved aperture.  The #40A worked fine with a compact ACOG.

My 40A works fine with my TA31 on my 19S... of course there is some degree + or - tolerance in all the components. So if the tolences stack in the wrong direction, it might not fit.

Does the ARMS 40/40a flip up or are they fixed sites?

Do you guys think I could fit a ARM 40a with my TA11?

They are spring loaded flip up, fold down and lock.

I prefer the A2 over the standard #40, because I find the horizon line distracting and it hampers my sight picture.Besides the small peep of the #40 is identical to an A2 sight which I'm used to and comfortable with.
