I'm new at this so bear with me.  I have a Wilson Combat M4T that I would like optics for.  What should I get?  What is ACOG and co-witnessing?  My rifle is a flat top with a front sight.  I am going to buy a flip up rear sight.  Can I have optics and use the iron sights as backup?  Please recommend optics and mounts.

Niko, I will tell you about what I prefer. I have a Aimpoint M2 ARMS 22M68 ring and cantelever spacer . I allows me to co witness.  That means if my Aimpoint goes down or battery dies I can use my iron sights through my Aimpoinnt. A ACOG is a scope that is made buy trijicon.

Here is a shot of how I configured my M-4.  The Aimpoint M68 CCO is GREAT!

go aimpoint with the mount of your choice for your m4...i recently went thru a 3-day tactical carbine class and fired 1500 or so rounds thru my m4.  it sported a new aimpoint with the arms 22m68 throw lever mounted on an arms 39, which has the flip up rear sight already attached to it.  i've been shooting ar's/m-16's for the last 30 years, and the aimpoint is the ticket for me.  fired from 3 yards out to 200 yards with mine.  if i can see it, i can hit it.  great setup.

btw - 10 other people in the class had aimpoints and everyone's concensus was/is that is the way to go.
