Is the TA31F a good choice or would the other TA models be better?

Have a TA31-F on my Preban goverment carbine (16" HBAR flattop upper). It's WONDERFUL!

The "F" is designed and calibrated for the 14.5" bbl flattop. It has the chevron reticle and is usually sold with the flattop adapter (mount).

Can it be used on a 20 in barrel?

It can be used on a 20" barrel, but your bullet drop compensation using the reticle will be off.  Read the tacked thread at the top of the forum to find out how much.

The chevron reticle is a little slower to pick up in fast shooting, but may be better for precise work.  Depends on what you want to to with it.  I prefer the TA31, with the donut reticle.

Yes, it can be though the hold over graduations will be a little off because of the different trajectory. See the tacked post at the top of this forum titled "The Big ACOG BDC Chart" by Bartholomew_Roberts

Precisely the reason I bought both. I feel the TA11 is a faster shooting scope "in general" because of the greater eye relief, so I bought it with the donut. Have the Chevron on the TA31.
