Hey Lumpy, this may be a silly question but I was wondering how the front sight looks through the ACOG. I've got a flip-up front sight on my AR now (with a TA-31) but I've been thinking about switching to a standard fixed front sight. BTW, I'm mounting my TA-31 exactly the same way you are (#19s).

What a coincidence. I was just making note of that while I sit here. Its a faint blurry dark spot in the bottom of the field of view extending up just to the bottom of the ranging reticle. Im not finding it distracting.

Great combination. You'll prefer the ACOG more then an Aimpoint. I couldn't live without my NSN-M4 ACOG. I've owned it for four years now and I will probably die with it.

Lumpy or anyone which mount did you use with your TA31. I'm in the process of buying one as well for my Bushmaster 20" A3. What comes with the TA31?

The only TA31 model that comes with a mount is the TA31F. That has the two thumb screw mount that Trijicon sells. Otherwise you have to buy it seperately. I went a little higher in cost and got an ARMS 19S, which is their short single throw lever ACOG mount.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm assuming if you want to use the ARMS#40 rear sight then you will need to remove the TA31 due to the magnification.

It wont even be able to flip up without removing the scope. It has to be to the rear of the reciever for proper eye relief.

Good to go to mount on the carry handle. It comes with the screw for that. It has a provision for a 2nd screw, but that involves drilling your carry handle. I wouldnt worry about stability with just the primary screw.

The TA31 is actually a bit shorter than the TA01NSN (no backup sights) but the aluminium body is the same dimension.
It probably looks a bit taller because the ARMS #19S mount puts the ACOG just a tad bit higher than the TA51 mount that comes with the NSN. |

The body of the TA31 is close in size to the NSN with the exception of the fins that guard the fiberoptic tube. That gives it the impression of being taller.

Does anybody have any problems with the, I don't know, one or two tenths height raise of the 19s over the TA51? I couldn't use the SIR because it put the ACOG too high. I also went back to the TA51 over the 19s with my TA31 as I couldn't get use to this very small difference. Sounds silly, but every time I put my nose to the charging handle, I would have to readjust. I don't know, old dog, new tricks, yada yada yada. Thanks.....Chad

Just me then, but I am weirderer than you. OK, maybe not. I too am a squared up stance guy. It is SOOOOOOOO not me when people talk about a stock that is too short. Too short? I am a huge man that dwarfs average humans and I use the first pull on a Colt, second on the RRA.
Back to topic; Did yours come with tiny little lines or cuts on the fiber optics tube? Mine did, but it doesn't bother me. Seems there was a thread on it awhile back, but I can't find it. Thanks.....Chad |

Yes, I like to use the squared stance too; but I use a really short stock so I can still put my nose on the charging handle (1st or 2nd notch).
Mine didn't come with any lines on the fiberoptic tube; but I managed to put a few there trying to wedge into some racks that didn't like the TA11 on the carry handle - just some small surface scratches but nothing else. As first I thought the tube was cracking on its own but then I actually noticed myself making the scratches while putting it into the rack. Hasn't affected use any. Also worth reminding everyone that the manual warns you to keep DEET (bug repellent) away from the plastic around the fiber optic as the DEET will melt it. |

I played with them all and went with the advice of new_arguy, SMGLee and BSBG and got the donut.
The chevron is way to fine and hard for me to pick up. Id go with the triangle of the TA31F if I were building a precision rig. The donut is just right for precison AND CQB. |
