Put it on the Carbine for now just to test it out. It'll eventually be on the A4gery.

Very cool. Sinistral Rifleman has one on the way as well. He also now owns my Elcan.

The TA31 is just visiting the carbine until my A4 20" Gov't upper arrives from Bushmaster.

Very nice set up.

I'll take it out to the range this week and see if I can keep all my shots within the center hole of a Krispy Kreme [;)]

Lumpy you sir are doing what exactly I had in mind. Aimpoint for 14.5" M4 4x ACOG for 20" Gov't Have fun with it! [:D] I can't wait to get mine.

Im an upper and a BUIS away [:D]
Link Posted: 8/12/2003 4:26:37 PM EDT
Hey Lumpy, this may be a silly question but I was wondering how the front sight looks through the ACOG. I've got a flip-up front sight on my AR now (with a TA-31) but I've been thinking about switching to a standard fixed front sight. BTW, I'm mounting my TA-31 exactly the same way you are (#19s). TIA

What a coincidence. I was just making note of that while I sit here. Its a faint blurry dark spot in the bottom of the field of view extending up just to the bottom of the ranging reticle. Im not finding it distracting.
Link Posted: 8/12/2003 4:43:46 PM EDT
VERY nice.
Link Posted: 8/12/2003 5:29:22 PM EDT
Great combination. You'll prefer the ACOG more then an Aimpoint. I couldn't live without my NSN-M4 ACOG. I've owned it for four years now and I will probably die with it. Enjoy, ls

You will like it [:D] If you don't, send it to me for safe keeping...

My flat top 20" is going to be modelled after your's bsbg...I LOVE that gun.

If it ever stops raining here, I'll take it to the range and take some new pics for you. Meanwhile, here's the sanme old one again:

Excellent. Thank you for the quick response Lumpy. I guess that means I will replace my front-flip or just get another upper.....yeah, another upper sounds good [:)]
Link Posted: 8/12/2003 8:19:31 PM EDT
Lumpy or anyone which mount did you use with your TA31. I'm in the process of buying one as well for my Bushmaster 20" A3. What comes with the TA31?
Link Posted: 8/12/2003 8:23:50 PM EDT
The only TA31 model that comes with a mount is the TA31F. That has the two thumb screw mount that Trijicon sells. Otherwise you have to buy it seperately. I went a little higher in cost and got an ARMS 19S, which is their short single throw lever ACOG mount.
Link Posted: 8/12/2003 8:38:17 PM EDT
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm assuming if you want to use the ARMS#40 rear sight then you will need to remove the TA31 due to the magnification. Thanks, Leadfoot
Link Posted: 8/12/2003 8:39:53 PM EDT
It wont even be able to flip up without removing the scope. It has to be to the rear of the reciever for proper eye relief.
Link Posted: 8/12/2003 8:56:02 PM EDT
Thanks, I don't know why I didn't see that. Nice scope, I'm saving for one myself.
Link Posted: 8/13/2003 4:36:16 AM EDT
I have one on the way for my Bushmaster 20" A2. Will I need, or do you recommend I buy anything extra to mount it to the handle that it does not come with? Thanks..
Link Posted: 8/13/2003 4:40:43 AM EDT
Good to go to mount on the carry handle. It comes with the screw for that. It has a provision for a 2nd screw, but that involves drilling your carry handle. I wouldnt worry about stability with just the primary screw.
Link Posted: 8/13/2003 5:17:01 AM EDT
Lumpy - Do you know if the TA31 has the same dimensions as the TA01NSN? It looks a bit taller in your picture.
Link Posted: 8/13/2003 5:38:51 AM EDT
The TA31 is actually a bit shorter than the TA01NSN (no backup sights) but the aluminium body is the same dimension. It probably looks a bit taller because the ARMS #19S mount puts the ACOG just a tad bit higher than the TA51 mount that comes with the NSN.
Link Posted: 8/13/2003 5:39:38 AM EDT
The body of the TA31 is close in size to the NSN with the exception of the fins that guard the fiberoptic tube. That gives it the impression of being taller.
Link Posted: 8/13/2003 7:56:52 AM EDT
Does anybody have any problems with the, I don't know, one or two tenths height raise of the 19s over the TA51? I couldn't use the SIR because it put the ACOG too high. I also went back to the TA51 over the 19s with my TA31 as I couldn't get use to this very small difference. Sounds silly, but every time I put my nose to the charging handle, I would have to readjust. I don't know, old dog, new tricks, yada yada yada. Thanks.....Chad
Link Posted: 8/13/2003 8:04:49 AM EDT
I dont...but then again Ive never been a nose on the gun guy, especially with my shooting stance that puts me more centered to the target instead of a bladed stance.

No; but I used to run my TA11 on the handle so I'm not real sensitive to the height to begin with.
Link Posted: 8/13/2003 11:22:29 AM EDT
Just me then, but I am weirderer than you. OK, maybe not. I too am a squared up stance guy. It is SOOOOOOOO not me when people talk about a stock that is too short. Too short? I am a huge man that dwarfs average humans and I use the first pull on a Colt, second on the RRA. Back to topic; Did yours come with tiny little lines or cuts on the fiber optics tube? Mine did, but it doesn't bother me. Seems there was a thread on it awhile back, but I can't find it. Thanks.....Chad
Link Posted: 8/13/2003 12:09:49 PM EDT
Yes, I like to use the squared stance too; but I use a really short stock so I can still put my nose on the charging handle (1st or 2nd notch). Mine didn't come with any lines on the fiberoptic tube; but I managed to put a few there trying to wedge into some racks that didn't like the TA11 on the carry handle - just some small surface scratches but nothing else. As first I thought the tube was cracking on its own but then I actually noticed myself making the scratches while putting it into the rack. Hasn't affected use any. Also worth reminding everyone that the manual warns you to keep DEET (bug repellent) away from the plastic around the fiber optic as the DEET will melt it.

Damn you lumpy! Now you got me thinking about a TA31... But which one? 31, 31A, 31F? Oh- Congrats lumpy! You do inded have good taste in ALL the toys.

I played with them all and went with the advice of new_arguy, SMGLee and BSBG and got the donut. The chevron is way to fine and hard for me to pick up. Id go with the triangle of the TA31F if I were building a precision rig. The donut is just right for precison AND CQB.

OK, I'll have a range report sunday after I take it out tomorrow afternoon. Im REALLY liking this without even having shot it.

And you're going to like it even more after you shoot with. [:D] I'm looking forward to your range report to see how you feel it compares to an Aimpoint. I know comparing an Aimpoint to an ACOG is like comparing apples to oranges but the Aimpoint and ACOG are optics like apples and oranges are fruits.
Link Posted: 8/23/2003 5:01:19 AM EDT
Does the BAC jump out nicely indoors for you?, or did it take some getting used to? Is it like an OEG? I've only used NSN's but am curious.
Link Posted: 8/23/2003 5:04:55 AM EDT
It does for me. Its just a matter of shifing my focus from the donut itself to widescanning for the target and using it like an Aimpoint.
Link Posted: 8/23/2003 5:13:43 AM EDT
So how do you like your ARMS #40? Any complaints? Any rear sights that you have liked better?
