I'll tell you this; I will not allow any of our team guns to use ARMS #22 mounts ever again. Because of the ARMS #22 rings, we had 2 guns go down on us in Idaho at the MGM "Iron Man" 3-gun match.
Russell’s gun (pictured above) and my Remington 700 both took a dump. I did not realize that the rings are held together by a $0.05 roll-pin. What bullshit is that! I have a $1300.00 scope held onto my $2500 bolt gun with a set of rings I paid $135.00 for and they are put together with a roll-pin, which means affectively that my Mk 4 scope is being held on my gun by a roll-pin. BULLSHIT! The pin worked out of (or never was installed in) Russell’s guns and on mine, the scope sat too far to one side, so that I had no left wind age. I should have left the Leupold rings on it (which worked just fine). I guess what they say about “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it” is right on the money. I thought I would be “High Speed” if I could pop my scope on and off like they show on the movies.
So lets sum this up…. I paid over $4000 in match fees, ammo and transportation to Idaho and the optics on our guns (thank God we brought back ups) start shifting while we are shooting (about ¼ of the way through the match). So it looks like one of 2 things…Either we are shitty shots or the guns are fucked up. Well being that we shoot matches all over and these people have seen us shoot before (and do well) maybe they start to think that our guns are no good…. Now I’m not only looking like a dork, but the quality of the guns I make is maybe being called into question! This is unacceptable, we are there representing a rifle company! The guns went bang every time we pulled trigger (others did not), but due to a minor part that is touted as being “The Best” we had 2 guns become un-reliable.
From this point forward, no ARMS mounts will be allowed on Team guns where I am paying for the match costs (with the exception of #40 rear sight. The OKO’s don’t break, so it’s just there for looks).
