I only own standard PMAG30s and 20s for my ARs and I find these to be the most utilitarian and useful.

I decided I want a couple of the giant ones purely because the left hates them, I don't even know if I'll use them.

I've never researched it before though so what should I get? PMAG60?

Most reliable is likely PMAG60.  The SF60 can be OK and the one I had was 100%.  Honestly I think any of them decrease the overall shootability of the platform and hurt one of their top attributes...light weight

The PMAG 60 is a fantastically engineered product that has functioned flawlessly for me. The only question is whether you want to pay the price for it. I'd recommend looking at one of PSA's package deals for the best price.

The PMAG 40s work great too (obviously, since they're just a longer PMAG). They're very reasonably priced; the only drawback is that they're a bit long and unwieldy. There are always tradeoffs when increasing capacity.

Right now...Surefire 100's

I have several & they work for me.

Followed by Pmag 40's. I also have some older C-Products 40's that work great too.

I like D60s. Surefire mags can be hit or miss. Most of them work ok as long as you don't put steel case in them.

Surefire 100's are to long to go prone, so that's kind of annoying.

For a long time I had a 40rd pmag in my HD rifle. Recently I switched to a D60 because it's not like I carry it around.

Thanks... I'm leaning towards a D60 but since my main goal is to to collect shit that libs hate that 100rnder does have some appeal.

I used 30s in my HD rifle and had a 12 mag assault vest with reloads. I jokingly labeled the third mag "you should probably call the cops" and the 9th mag "someone else probably already did" and the 12th "cops better show up soon". Before you ask, Yes, it was just for giggles with the wife and friends I wouldn't want some lawyer twisting that around God Forbid I ever had to use it.

D60 is an absolute PITA to load...

Beta mags probably look the coolest and hit the all important 100 rd count, but they are finicky.  At least the D60 seems very reliable.

The surefires are real hit and miss.

The 40rd sticks are really the best solution for more than 30 rds.

Don't worry, given enough time, the Left will detest any magazine greater than 5 rounds...

My experience with the Surefire 60 rounders is that they work great, until and unless you drop one partially loaded.  When that happens, the springs can become scrambled eggs with the followers and remaining rounds, and disassembly is required to get them working again.  Not for me.  I'm selling mine the next time there's a panic.
The D60s become a bit easier to load as they break in, but they're not something you'll ever load in a hurry.  They're more of a "load it before you go to the range" thing.  Same with the Armatac.  Still, I'll probably buy more D60s, and maybe even another Armatac.  If I drop a D60, the worst that can happen is a broken toe .

I have not shot mine alot but I don't regret buying it.   What makes it stand out against the others is that it has internal sprockets so each round has it's own space and they don't touch each other until they are blended together at the magazine shaped part.
There are videos online on how to take it apart for maintenance and the insides look like some NASA shit.

About the only downside I can think of besides the price is that you need a loading tool.   The cheap ProMag? 5-rounds at a time loader they sell along with the drum works just fine.
I do not see a problem with the mag catch and a full mag but then again I have not IMT'ed with it either.

I timed myself this weekend, loading the D60 is about as bad as loading two 30s without a Lula.

My blisters tell me the Lula or stripper clips are the way to go and loading the D60 4 or 5 times is about max.

Pmag 40s are just as reliable as the 30s.  I still some some of the old Sterling AR180/15 40 rds, these were the cat's meow back in the early 90s and man did I pay for them back then!

I have a few of the Bulgarian made 40s for the AR platform (before Magpul came out with the P40), they also worked just like any other AK mags, metal lined feed lips and robust. Bulgy IK520 mags

Beta C-Mags ruled the AR15 Drum kingdom, but no one uses them anymore just because 90 rds onboard is quite a load. Best way to load CMag is a modified Lula (removal tab cut off to fit in between tower and right side drum) and judicious application of powder graphite every  5-10 rds.  Yes, a PITA I know, but it is the only way I know of to ensure 100% reliable feeding under the clock.

Don't know anything about the Pmag D60s but they look cool.

SF 60 Gen 1 was a failure in my book, sold mine after a few range trips.  I heard Gen 2 is better but no experience for me.

The D60 is gtg. I got one from psa in a deal, loaded and unloaded twice in mag dumps. No problems...

Save for reloading afterwards...

PSA was damned near giving the D60's away over the summer!! Now, very few deals to be had on them...apparantly other than the one from Brownells mentioned.  They're good quality, not horrible to load, and their size is pretty nice.

The 100rd. Surefire....it's pretty much just to say you have a 100rd mag.  Size is a joke, no real practicality other than shooting while standing.

I agree that the 40rd Pmags are the way to go.  I'm looking at coupling them now.  Two of those with a coupler are around $50 shipped and they'll have 20 more rounds than the D60.

You can also add the deal where they have a D-60 mag with 2 30 rd PMAGS (@115.59) and use coupon LDD for $10 off and free shipping.

If you estimate the 30rd PMAGs at @$8 apiece, that's about $90 for the D-60.

I'd say the weight addition of the D60 would limit attraction or need.  I do not have one though and no plans to get one

I have a D60, Pmag 40, and korean double-drum Beta c-mag knockoff.  The D60 and P40 are good to go.  Haven't shot the korean 100 round one yet.  My range has to inspect your rifle ammo and I haven't felt like loading that thing up after I get there yet.

D60 is kinda a pain to reload.  I wish it worked with LULAs.  The korean is about the same, maybe a little better given it has a plunger loading tool instead of the ratchet.

I'd like to try an Armatac, but there is NO WAY I'm paying that much. $100 for D60/knockoff beta is the limit for me.

An armatac is still half the cost if a mid ban c mag.

Yes, it is heavy, 9oz heavier than linked 30rnd Pmags........need? of course I don't need one, or now two, but I already have too many 30s still in the wrapper unused. Get it to have it type deal I think.

Magpul 40 and Bulgarian 35 work well.

I've had decent results with sF 60, but echo the problems with partially loadrd mags vomiting rounds.

Have 2 D60s, not tried yet.

If you really want to get a large capacity magazine, try these. Theyre better than the cheaper Beta C mag. More rounds and tougher magazine body than any cheap plastic C mag. I have a couple of these as well as a number of D60 and X Products 50rd drums:

How about the old school 120 round steel chinese drums?  All reports seem to say they function flawlessly.  Easy to load / unload too.  Kind of privey due to scarcity, but cheaper than that 150 round drum!

I had to tweak mine a lot to get it to run.  Tabs for the hinges holding on the front plate are fragile too.  If they were cheaper they might get a recommendation.

Surefire D60, not that difficult to load and in my experience 100% reliable. I hope Magpul comes out with D60s in Medium Coyote Tan!

Surefire 60 is garbage, had a malfunction, took it apart, couldn't figure out what caused the hangup, and though it worked afterward I eventually sold it.

the p40 is IMO the best but thr D60 is not a poor performing mag the 60 rounder from surefire I have had no problem with.
