The empty ones in a card board box in a closet.

The dozen or so loaded ones in an ammo can.

I keep empty magazines in soft-sided tool bags from Sears. That is also how I carry loaded mags to the range.

I put them in the SAW pouches, they hold 7 mags each.
and they fit with the ranger tabs on them no problem.

Surplus soft sided tool bags for the unloaded mags. Dillon soft sides bags for the take to the range mags(unloaded,of course)

I use a 20mm ammo can for storage.

FYI, 95 30 rounders fit in the can like a glove.

40mm ammo can will hold 40 30rders.

(shown with 30 mags, 2 will fit at the end and 8 can be layed down on top)

I bought a shoulder mag bag from ACE here(hit accessories and scroll down to 6 pack), I haven't received it yet even though I ordered it over 2 weeks ago but for $15 and it's supposed to hold 12 mags I'm looking forward to getting it. I think it will be great for going to the range, just grab it and go

For the last 20 years I have been using these similar bags from Galati International.

www.galatiinternational.com

The one for 30 rnd M16 and Mini-14 mags is the GLMP30

I use U.S.G.I. EVA Copolymer 30rd magazine storage bag for each mag, loaded or not.

I have my magazines on several 10 gallon clear plastic storage boxes which you could buy from any hardware stores or Costco (approx. $6 each).

These plastic storage boxes are stackable and I also use them (separate boxes) to store my parts and accessories.

I built a big-ass wood crate to keep all my mags in, including pistol mags. Only now I will have to build another one because my little pile of AR mags is growing. I'll more than likely make a crate strictly for AR mags.

I also painted the crate OD to match all my ammo cans.

ETA- Wizzo's use of the 40mm can is a great idea. Every now and then I see those sized cans at gun shows.

In a nice, padded NOD can of course! Anything else would be uncivilized!
