I've struggled to find much real world data on Creedmoor Sports 77gr TMK so I recently picked up a box of it to compare to the excellent Black Hills 77gr TMK load. The Creedmoor load is significantly less expensive than the Black Hills load and my thinking was that it would be nice to have an alternative that's a little easier on the wallet for practice and stockpiling.

Both companies list velocity at 2750 FPS for their load. (This will obviously be lower in a short barrel).

I shot this test with an 11.5" Noveske Stainless Switchblock barrel.

Chrono was set at 12ft from the muzzle and 10 shot strings were used.

Air Temp: 62 degrees
Humidity: 58%
Dewpoint: 45 degrees
Pressure: 30.24 (steady)
Elevation: 1030'

Creedmoor 77gr Sierra TMK
2349 - Average Velocity

15.36 - Standard Deviation

The results speak for themselves. The Creedmoor Sports load was ~100FPS slower in this barrel. This isn't necessarily a deal breaker and I plan to test some different barrel lengths to see how they stack up.

Black Hills is 5.56 and Creedmoor is .223.

Not bad for the price difference if the Creedmoor is quality ammo.

Absolutely. The Creedmoor brass is annealed and headstamped with their own brand. The primers appear to have a light crimp but there is no exposed sealant on either the primer or bullet. BH uses a cannelured version of this bullet and it's my understanding that it's an exclusive for them. I don't see a cannelure on the Creedmoor ammo.

From all appearances and the way it shot for me, it's quality ammo. There are also several reviews on their website saying that others were impressed with it as well.

The BH load is cannelured and 5.56? Oh my.

I'm going to grab 100 rounds.

It is. It's very, very good ammo, with a price to match of course.

77gr BH is a very hot load. I'm not surprised the Creedmoor is slower. In fact, I expected it.

Seems those Noveske SS barrel get great velocity. I think I remember someone posting Noveske 12.5 SS barrel numbers that matched my 14.5.

Good data thanks for taking the time to make that. I too explored Creedmoor as an alternative to the more expensive Black Hills. Both shot well, very well really. But in both my 10.5" Rainier Ultramatch and my 16" stealth the Black Hills shot better in every loading I tested (68/75gr hornady HPBT, 69/77SMK, 69/77TMK). Everyone's rifle is different but it has been my experience at least.

I'm really curious as to what this bullet flies out of a 16" barrel.

I can answer that after the next time I get out to the range.

Would you look at that? Hahah I belive the BHA TMK in the 5.56 flavor flies about 2630-2630 ish..Id imagine a .223 loading will be about 100 FPS slower.

Yep, I've got a 16" KISS rifle I just added Trijicon night sights to and it needs to be zero'ed. I can run both TMK rounds over a chrono while I'm there for that.

I've heard great things for accuracy with the CM tmk loads. The TMK imo is a good compromise for paper and flesh/bone targets. I don't like having to Re zero my optic for various ammo on my hunting gun.
