I'm not sure if anyone here has tested the Magtech 123gr FMJ Blackout load so I did today.

This load is interesting to me because it's a light projectile (for an FMJ) and the conventional wisdom for this caliber is that lighter bullets tend to do better in the shorter BLK barrels, for supersonic at least.

I brought an 8" BA Performance Series barreled SBR and a 10.5" Noveske Stainless Barreled SBR. Both rifles used a SiCo Omega Suppressor for the tests.

Chrono was set at 12ft from the muzzle and 10 shot strings were used.

This ammunition appears to be a GREAT choice for plinking and range practice if you choose to shoot factory ammo. In both barrel lengths, it's within 100fps of the ammo I use for self defense and hunting in this caliber (Barnes 110gr TAC-TX).

I wasn't shooting for accuracy/precision with this test but with a Trijicon MRO on the 8", I got about 3.6MOA and with a Trijicon ACOG (TA33, 3X30) I got about 2.5MOA, just to give you an idea of what this ammo is capable of.

The price is pretty attractive as well. I've paid as low as $.39 per round for a full case. It's more common to find it for $.45-$.55 per round however.

Curious as how their new subsonic rounds will perform.

I was pretty damn impressed to be honest. As I'm sure you know, it's not easy to find a supersonic BLK round that has >1900 velocity in an SBR that doesn't break the bank. I've tried quite a few of the "cheap" factory options (PNW, S&B, Armscor, ADI to name a few) and this load is by far the best. Decent accuracy, awesome price, 100% functionality.

ETA: You can get 1250 rounds in a standard .50 ammo can in the factory packaging.

Pretty darn close to what I got.

8" Ballistic Advantage average: 1,953fps

10.5" FN average: 2,040fps

I'd say so.
