General Plinking:
Geco 55gr M193 5.56
($0.31/rd)
(1.3-1.5MOA in most of my 5.56 rifles, 10rd groups)

Ammo for Longer Range:
Magtech/CBC 77gr OTM 5.56
($0.55/rd)
(0.75-1.1MOA in my SPR, and 1.25-1.5MOA in my 'go-to' AR, 10rd groups)

"Go-To" Ammo, or "Home Defense" Ammo:
Magtech/CBC 77gr OTM 5.56
(mostly due to my 'Go-To' AR being sighted in with it, IMO Geco M193 will be just fine as well)

Hunting:
I do not hunt

Fiochhi 77gr SMK(223MKD) is mainly what I shoot for accuracy at 100y-600y and go to SHTF ammo, it's cheap and shoots best out of my 1/7s. I also have some PMC M855 stacked deep.

Eta.. meant to say that Fiochhi is definitely underrated too. I prefer it over BH's MK262.

I like the PPU M193 sealed battle packs for long-term storage/SHTF ammo.

Also,
Wolf Gold for range
Fusion for home defense (also keep some of this in 308 for hunting)
MK262 for long range

Training, close range matches to 100 yards, any flavor of 55gr I'm shooting at the time.

Longer range matches, hogs/coyote/HD, MK262.

Training/Plinking: steel, whatever is cheapest, wolf, tulammo, whatever, usually 55gr as most of my AR's are zeroed for m193. I'm not in the brass snob crowd, and lately prices have been stupid cheap, last 3 cases of wolf 55gr steel case I bought were $180 shipped each, I'll take that savings and just buy a new barrel after another 10-15k rounds or whatever/whenever its shot out

Stash: M193 or Wolf Gold (55gr), cheap and stacked deep

Shooting groups: depends because that's only a few builds, my favorite load that seems to do well in most of my paper punching only guns is black hills 77gr Mk 262 mod 1

I don't hunt with my AR's

My AR isn't my HD firearm, I still have a Mossberg 500 on HD detail (just my preference), Federal 2 3/4 LE 12 GA flight control 00 buckshot, a few Federal 2 /34 LE 12 GA tactical rifled truball slugs in the side saddle, in case the buckshot doesn't stop the meth head or whoever breaks into my house

Plinking - 223 pressure reloads 55fmj mostly.  Will shoot premium stuff for function check, accuracy work, etc.

Don't hunt with 5.56 but would use 64gr soft points if I did.

MK262 77gr for HD.

I really appreciate all the feedback.

Not sure where to go on the planking....I was hoping this would help me dial in a decent rd, but it seems to be a bit all over the board.  I have used and do like the PMC X-Tac.  Seems to be decent, although I am still a bit new to this rd and have not had time to test vs others.

I do see a ton of love for the MK262.  Do most of you recommend the 77gr?  I have a 1/8 twist...will this be ok or would you recommend a lesser gr?

Another I have heard of is the Spree Gold Dot - Has anyone tried this and if so which gr and how did you like it?

I recommend the Mk262 as it does shoot well from a 1/8. And I also recommend that Speer Gold Dot 64 as well. Quite a few coyotes have been thinned out DRT with my SBR at 200 give or take and under.

Just like anything ammo related, you really have to give it a try before you know for sure how well it will perform out of your 1/8 barrel.

I think for a general plinking round, just buy quality brass case ammo and you should be fine.
Although I still highly recommend the Geco M193 or its 223 loading in 55gr, as both can be very accurate(IME 1.33MOA-1.5MOA 10rd group) for the price of $0.31.

As a general understanding to the twist rate and bullet weight, 1/8 will be just fine for 77gr weight.
However, 77gr loaded by Magtech/CBC can perform differently out of your barrel than a 77gr cartridge loaded by other company.
Why not just buy a few boxes of Magtech/CBC 77gr and IMI 77gr, since those are the cheapest 77gr ammo available?

Range and plinking PMC Bronze or XM193
Defense Speer 64 grain GD
Hunting Speer 64 grain GD, Horndy 50 or 53 grain Vmax, 77 grain Fusion depending on game
SHFT stock piling XM193 and PMC Bronze.
A lot of this is dependant on what a given barrel likes to shoot well. One barrel may shot 50 grain Vmax sub moa and another barrel will not shoot paper plate moa. Personal preference is a large factor as well.

It depends on the rifle.
Long work Hornady steel match 75 gr. Hunting, Gold Dot 75 Grain. 1:8 twist
HD GD 64 grain. Either
Rubber meets road, XM193, or what ever I can get.
Stack it, XM 193 clones. Wolf Gold is the flavor of the month for me.
6.5 Grendel is also gaining popularity with me.

Which brand of XM193 do you typically shoot?

Federal, American Eagle and IMI. IMI has a little better accuracy than most XM193.

Range Planking? M193/whatever's cheapest.  I don't plank on the range, though, mostly prone, kneeling, and standing.

223 or 556 for Range? Depends on the range and the rifle.  If I'm shooting farther than 300, I'm usually shooting Grendel, 308, or something bigger.

Hunting? 64gr Gold Dot/Fusion, unless it's crows or coyotes, then it's AE 50gr TV

    Home Defense 64gr Gold Dot/Fusion

Do you have a go to or a main for all occasions?

I'm burning up my T2 Tap right now, as it has proven itself inferior to Gold Dots, so most of my truck mags are loaded with it.  Once that's gone, it will be Gold Dots.  At 50 cents per round delivered, it's not worth loading cheapo M193 in mags and worrying about a zero shift, unless I'm burning a bunch of ammo that day.

What's your reasoning for the 3 different loads? Do all 4 guns not shoot them well or what? ETA: pistol ammo.

As to the OP, m193 is the go to. Just gotta try different brands.

I'm comfortable with the performance of m193 for putting my life to it, or (disregarding laws) to put meat in my belly if it had to. There's better choices for all occasion, but I feel like it's too much effort to keep 3+ different stocks of ammo. I also don't shoot precision nor can/do I hunt with 5.56.

Keep in mind, i brew my own, but you can find comperable factory offerings as well.

Barnes 62gr TTSX - Hunting and HD (Load is with 24.1 gr Varget)  This is a sub MOA @100yds load in my gun

Nosler Custom Comp 77gr - LR, Hunting, or SD in general (Load is 23.6 gr Varget) This is a 1/4 @100yds load in my gun

My barrel is an 18" Mid length in 1:8

I have some M855 lying around, but that now blasting ammo to generate more reloading brass.  wildly inaccurate for my liking...

(EDT)  whatevers cheap for blasting steel silhouettes

Range Planking? Wolf Gold, Magtech M193, Barnaul Mil-Spec

223 or 556 for Range? My buddy's MK262 clone reloads

Hunting? Haven't had a chance to hunt yet but I'd likely use one of my AKs or something .308 or bigger

Home Defense Wolf Gold & MK262 loads

Do you have a go to or a main for all occasions? If you can see the pattern above, Wolf Gold is my preferred all around ammo, got 4K of it stacked away
