Like I said in my prior post.  I really think we over think this.  Look at it this way.  Let's say you engage a human size target at 75 yards (FBI statistics say the average distance for a gun battle in the US is 10-20ft),  yeah that close.  You hit the target center chest, which bullet it going to kill him more dead?
View Quote
Yeah that's to date under law and order.

Throw all if that out the window if it's SHTF you could find yourself in all kinds of scenarios and distances.

Yes any bulket will work but some work better. 75 good dots for me because they are cheap at PSA

64gr Gold Dot .223 is what I am currently toying with. Got too many flavors of 55gr .223 and M193 and M855 and odd lots of 69/77gr stuff laying around. Need to pick one and go with it.

Nowhere I've seen. Only absurdly priced bullets.

I load lots of ammo. Multiple multiple K per year.

No way in hell would I attempt to attain the speed 855A1 is hitting with commercial powder.

I'll wait til its available as an X (XM855/193) load and buy 420 rounds and call it a day.

None, I have several thousands rounds of 6.8spc and 7.62x39 to turn cover into concealment.

I've got 2K of this stuff and another 3K of their 62gr "green tips" too...though that's not counting the countless thousands of LC, PMC, AMA DENEX and ADI 62gr. ammo packed w/silica gel packs.  The AMA & ADI ammo comes sealed in plastic packs, which is a win...though their stripper clips don't fit in the "spoon" like LC does.

5.56 = 62gr TTSX @ 2840 fps from a 16"

300blk = 110gr Barnes Blank tips pushed to 2240 fps in a 10"

Both loads are HOT and both shoot great.

After those are gone, for 5.56 its into the old Silver state armory 62 gr (Maybe it's 64gr) Bonded loads.

Then I will shoot the fmj crap...

I have a few k of m855 and xm192 as my "back up"  but last year i came into around 14k 55gr fmjs, so i loaded them up and am now sitting on approx 20k 5.56 alone.

Whatever I happen to have.  If the Norks actually do invade the CONUS, they are just as likely to be random range pickup or generic steel case crap as Hornady TAP or any of the .mil analogues like M193 or M855...  If it pokes holes in whatever needs holes poked in it, it is good for me.

I have 4 uppers with different optics, all used one one M-16 lower. 2 are 14.5 and 2 are 16 inch. All are FN Mountain series Mid weight. {red]All soot 1/2 inch groups with Military M855 ammunition 160 yards. [/s]The  14.5 inch barrels spread to one inch at three hundred yards. The 16 inch start having problems out past 600 yards due to wind and heat. The 14.5's do almost as well but don't have the same optics. All my ammunition is military. That is what you will find to be available in a worst case issue. This is with all .62 gr. Have found the ammo ZQI to be most consistent across the chronograph followed by LC- Federal and PMC being equal, with IMI being the worst of all I have tested. Crimped and sealed primers and bullets will keep you going and I won't be bench rest shooting when and if this ever happens. Also your rifle should shoot (function ) with almost anything, which mine will. That was my goal years ago and I have settled on this set up. Have some QPQ 18 inch setups in 7.62 tat use military out to 900 yard but they don't get run as hard as the 16 does. I have enjoyed all the testing and data storage I have put together.

M193.

It's what I practice with, it's what my rifles are sighted with, it's easy to find, and it defeats body armor pretty well, and I can stockpile a lot of it.

It may not be the best at any one thing, but for unforeseen use......it's a pretty fair bet that it will do it OK.  And I can have plenty of it around.

Have you shot a decent amount of the SSA bonded yet?

I bought some ~2-3 years ago when they had a sale and it was the cheapest bonded option I could find. Took 'em to the range and had 1 in 4 or 5 Failure-To-Fire. Same AR (Colt CRP-18) has never had problems with ANY other ammo I've fed it.

ONLY used it for plinking/range from that point till it was gone. Sometimes the ones with now dented primers (showing a positive strike) that didn't go bang, would fire the 2nd time around, sometimes not.

Same for me. I sleep well knowing that my 10.3" MK18 has 30rds of M193 ready to go. I reload plenty of it for $175 per 1k so I can stack it deep for cheap

Federal XM556SBCT3 which is identical to the FBI's XM556FBIT3. It is Federal's TBBC bullet loaded in 5.56. It's the best blind barrier load and will expand well when fired from my Colt Commando.

Never had any issues.
It's been kicking around 5 or 6 years.
The stuff I have is the black box SSA, pre-nosler by out  stuff
(Maybe 6 or 8 years)

I have a load with the 70 grain TSX that is lights out accurate in every 5.56 in my squad (i.e. Family).

It hits hard, penetrates and dumps deer with ease.

We'll use that I suppose.

IMI and Fed M-193. The IMI loads are the most accurate, consistent, and hottest load of M-193  have tested in the 20 in A1 rifle. (1/12 twist) Ave on chrono around 3305fps.

Lol. Norks?  Seriously?  You watch to much tv.

It'll be the "we are here to help" gov types coming to confiscate or (not likely) the Starbucks antifa brigade.

my go to is M855. I am SLOWLY starting to assemble M855A1. Not cheap though. And no, my AR is NOT my primary home defense system.

EDIT**** I do not get m855a1 often. I pick it up as I find it and it IS expensive. Last time I spent $50 for 10 rounds. I have a sneaking suspicion these are 'acquired' when I find them but I don't care know the details.

M193 is all I use.

To be fair, if it's happening, pretty much any flavor of 5.56 or .223 is going to kill a person at average gunfight distances. I honestly believe that we over think the issue of the best ammo.
