Thoughts on this ammo?  I have heard good and I have heard bad.  A friend a a few cases to sell and I'm thinking about buying it from him. Thanks.

Anything IMI makes is worth a look to me. I have never used the Independence, but have several ammo cans of 55 grain 5.56 with Hebrew writing on them. In fact 5.56 55 grain FMJ is the extent of the english.

If the price is right, it would be worth a try. Ask hm to buy a few boxes to tryout first.

Good Luck with this.

it's some if not the hottest 5.56 I've ever chrono'd. There have been reports of signs of over pressure before. I've seen slight indications when I've used it, so YMMV.

I'd take a big pass, I've had blown primers, bulged brass & rifles I had to mortar to get the bulged brass out of the chamber...  Not worth it.

Ive had no problems with any Israeli made ammo, including the Independence 5.56.

Personally, I'd pass.

While I have had good luck with IMI ammo... whoever made the specs / load recipe for Independence ammo should be retrained.

Independence ammo was clearly to hot loaded in my tests.

Other batches have been "normal" velocities.... but , if the QC is that lacking on a commercial load.... I'll pass... and spend my hard earned money on other, better ammo.

Agreed, that ammo is noticeably hotter than anything else.

I've shot a good bit of it, including 500+ rds in a 4-day course with zero issues. However I wouldn't recognize signs of overpressure if they hit me in the face, so YMMV.

What velocities are you guys getting with 16" barrel and Independence?
6/9/2016 12:03:40 PM EDT

ive run thousands of rounds of independence through multiple rifles with 0 issues.

.......................................................................................16" Middie.........................20" Rifle..............................
Independence 55gr (XM193I).. FC 2,1, 13.................Av. 3195, ES 50.................Av. 3343, ES 94..........................Same type of headstamp as IMI 77gr , 4 MOA

I will add.... accuracy was certainly affected from the excess speed.... dismal.

From this thread ( much More chrono data )

So far I had zero issues, but the accuracy was pretty bad from all rifles I had tried. I still have 7-8 hundred rounds left

No issues here but Wolf Gold is my current choice...

Thanks for the replies guys. I mainly shoot wolf gold but I came across this ammo and I thought I'd run it by ARFCOM before I went and bought up what he has.

Consider yourself lucky, like perhaps you should play the lotto.  Many of us have had down right scary experiences with Independence.

I've had no issues but I don't see it very often. The last time I fired it was maybe 2010-11. I can't comment to recent production ammo.

I've run a few hundred without any issue. It's certainly not match ammo but I've never seen it perform terrible.

Im surprised to see so many who don't like the Independence here. Back several years ago when PSA had it at around $5.75/box of 20 I bought several thousand rounds of the stuff. Shot it through several different rifles without any issues at all, I would have bought more but the price started creeping back up on it.

Maybe the chambers on other people's rifles can handle this ammo. None the less I've seen minimal complaints of this ammunition. Midway shows 4.6 out 5 stars out of 48 reviews for instance.

No-go.  I bought 250 rounds after Sandy hook and it was horribly inaccurate. Several members on this board chrono'd it and it was loaded way too hot.  Some were in correspondence with the manufacturer over issues they had.

Multiple low round count KAC & Daniel Defense uppers couldn't handle it, this is an ammo issue not a rifle issue.

I'd buy it over many other competitors in the same price range IE(Winchester,AE,or Wolf Gold)  I like it.

I don't know about that to a 100% certainty. I work in manufacturing and anything can and will happen, but the positives far and by far out weight the negatives.

Hmm, I just bought 100 rounds of it because it was relatively inexpensive. I haven't shot with it yet.

During "the panic" Independence was some of the only 5.56 I could find locally. It was the only 5.56 I shot for a little while because I didn't want to get into anything else I had stockpiled. It all went bang, I didn't have any issues with it other than its inaccuracy. I shot it out of multiple ARs and an AUG.

I shot a case (500) through a 6920 and 6940 with no issue.  Of course I don't consider myself smart enough to detect an issue unless so ething catastrphic happens.
