Flowers as a "thanks honey" can work magic. Keep the person willing to recieve your ammo while you're gone happy. You will need them more as prices continue to drop and you continue to find an endless amount of cool shit you must have and need ammo for like the rest of us.

Recently bought:

3000rds of Barnaul 9mm Luger ammo
1200rds of Yugo M75 8mm Mauser ammo
8000rds of GECO 5.56mm ammo

Including the thousands of rounds I already have, I think I am good for more than a couple months

Was there a deal on the 5.56 Geco?
Link Posted: 7/9/2017 10:19:15 AM EDT
[#7]
To me yes, but might not be a 'good deal' for everyone.
Was $0.30 per round shipped for all 8000rds from Sportsmansguide, and that is about $0.03 per round cheaper than everywhere else.

GECO 55gr 5.56 is the most accurate round I've tried in my main shooter rifle, my SR15 Mod1, as it can consistently do 1.33-1.4MOA 10rd group at 100yards.
It is also accurate enough, being sub 2 MOA, in all my other 5.56 AR and non-AR rifles. (except my CZ 805 BREN)

Edit: I just checked, and seems like Sportsmansguide changed their pricing back to $0.33 per round again.

It's still a new rifle.  I've heard it gets better after a break in period.  But lots of stuck casings with WOLF.  Brown Bear seems to run fine and it's made by the same plant as the SGAMMO Barnaul "mil spec" stuff.  Lucky for me stuck casings are easy to clear from the AUG.  We'll see I've only got about 400 rounds down the tube so far.

Also picked up from Wal Mart while I was there
box of 15 Federal Slugs
box of 25 Suprema 00 Buck

I've been picking up a box of slugs and buck for the last few paydays to build up my shotgun ammo stockpile.  I don't shoot a lot of those so these small quantities add up quick.

Question for you guys buying and storing 1000s and 1000s of rounds.

Are you shooting that much ammo or just hoarding it for an End Of Days, Walking Dead zombie apocalypse type scenario?

I shoot most of what I have, keep 2k rounds of 9mm and about 2k of .223/5.56 on hand.

You have to understand that some of us have well over a dozen AR-platform weapons & will typically blow through over 500 rounds (Twenty 30rd magazines filled with 25rds each) on a typical "day at the range".
Now, I usually have a range day once (or occasionally twice) a month, and thus burn though @6-10K rounds a year, so for me - having only 4K rounds of on-hand ammo would be considered "scary-thin".

Just sayin,

No, I get that and I replace what I shoot... I probably go through 750-1000 rds per month (depends on if the boys and wife also come with me) and I reorder more each month or whenever I see a good sale. But in reading some of these posts, I see guys who stockpile 10k-30k+ of ammo. Just trying to understand their reasoning. I can think of much better uses for $10k-$15k in cash.

I've been though a few ammo "scares" now when either ammo wasn't available or was priced sky high due to market forces.  We're in a new "golden era" as far as pricing goes IMO so I'm buying more than normal.  I go though about 12k rounds a year of all calibers plus or minus a few K due to various reasons and my current pile will let me go about a year and a half at current consumption before I run out.

Basically some of us look further out than just a a few weeks or months and try to plan ahead/be prepared for what we can't predict.  And some of us just like having a lot of ammo and I can think of way worse things to spend my money on ;)

For me, 10-30K would be considered a ..."Good Start".
Aside from the aforementioned training use aspects, you also have to consider that for SHTF/End-of-days purposes (and this is truly dependent on not only the number of weapons you own, but also on your ability to responsibly maintain & secure these types & number of items), it is not unreasonable to keep a minimum of a "combat load out" (which as of this writing is considered to be @ 300rds for 5.56x45mm) per weapon, on hand.

A combat load out is roughly considered to be the amount of ammo necessary to be carried around in order to supply one member of a general combat patrol for one day. Now, if you've ever been in a combat firefight, then you'll know that it is quite easy to burn through that number in far less than a day, so for me (and once again - this is completely dependent on your ability to responsibly maintain & secure these types & numbers of items), I try to keep a minimum of roughly 1000rds per weapon on hand.

Another aspect to consider is that ammo itself is also a readily tradable barter item, and thus can potentially be used as a form of currency in a SHTF/End-of-Days scenario.

Hopefully this has helped to answer your question, and we can now thus get back to the topic of this thread.

3,000 Barnaul 55gr .223 "mil-spec" lacquer coated  from SGAMMO(I think they call it that because it has a sealed neck and primer, I like the lacquer coating more than the poly coating on WOLF) .22 cents a round after shipping.

3,000 WOLF 115gr 9mm was going to order 3000 of the Barnaul "milspec" from SG ammo but they've been out for a bit.  Ordered from Sportsman's Guide they're doing a double member discount plus free shipping.  13 cents a round.

Which one?  I wouldn't have bought 3 thousand rounds of each if that was the case.

I've fired 500 rounds of the .223 Barnual though my AUG with no ill effects and no cleaning.  There's some of the red sealant on the bolt face but nothing that's "gumming" anything up.    I've fired boat loads of Brown Bear (same ammo really minus the neck sealant) though all of my ARs with no issues.

My GLOCK eats anything and has eaten thousands of rounds of that 115 gr WOLF with no issues.  No buildup in the gun past what would normally be there.  Had no problems with Brown Bear or Silver Bear or any other steel cased ammo either.

If you're talkinga bout the polymer or lacquer coating that doesn't melt off in normal use.  If the lacquer is melting off in your chamber the barrel is red hot and you're probably cooking off ammo.
